Here is one that will provide all the Dublin taxi drivers who say they were in St Mels Park on the historic day that Athlone Town almost tamed Milan
Take a walk down Sporting memory lane this Saturday on Athlone Community radio 88.4 fm as we recall that famous day on October 22 nd 1975 when the great AC Milan came to town to Play our boys.
They met in the 1975-76 UEFA cup 2nd round clash and in this 1 hour documentary we hear from players, grounds staff and fans.
The documentary will bring you through the build up, the atmosphere around the town, the Match itself, the penalty incident, the aftermath and the return leg at the San Siro
The documentary is produced by Robbie Mulvey sports presenter and producer with Athlone Community Radio, and aptly named “The Italian Connection” will be broadcast on 88.4 fm this Saturday from 4:30pm to 5:30pm or you can also tune in online by going to www.athlonecommunityradio.ie ‘

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
