Bohs step back in time to visit their origins

BOHEMIAN FC paid homage to the club's first members this week when the board met at the house where the founding meeting took place 122 years ago today. That meeting happened on Saturday 6th September 1890 at the Gate Lodge of Phoenix Park (North Circular Road). The 18 men present were mostly medical and civil service students. This week, to mark the anniversary, the club's present directors met at the Gate Lodge by kind invitation of the present occupant, Margaret Casey. Bohemians have an unrivalled continuous history since 1890. They have been at Dalymount Park for 111 years and are the only club to have played every year at the top level of the League of Ireland since its foundation over 90 years ago.

"We are very aware of the heritage of the club from those pioneering days over 120 years ago," said club president Chris Brien. "We wanted to pay homage to the founders but also recall for all our members and supporters the responsibility we have inherited to keep this great club going well into the future." As part of Phizzfest, the local arts festival, Bohemian FC will stage a walk-and-talk event this weekend around north city sites associated with the club's founders and early history. This starts from Dalymount Park at 11am on Saturday 8th September.
