    Henderson appointed Cobh boss

Stephen Henderson is the new manager of Cobh Ramblers succeeding Dave Hill who resigned as manager last week.

Who & Where did these lads play. Ramblers biggest problem is scoring goals. What we need is strikers who are on form.

    2 defender and a midfielder.

Stephen Henderson is the new manager of Cobh Ramblers succeeding Dave Hill who resigned as manager last week.

Henderson will take his first steps in management with Ramblers after agreeing a deal until the end of the season earlier in the week and has immediately given Cobh the short-term goal of reaching the Premier Division.

"The priority has to be reaching the Premier Division. When you look down the road at Cork, you see them playing them playing in front of 8,000 people sometimes and I want my players to be determined to play at that level," he said.

"I don’t want people happy to potter around the First Division. I want winners and I want to be in the Premier Division."

Having spent four seasons with Cork as goalkeeping coach, Henderson knows what is needed to reach Premier Division levels and he’s also brought Cork first team coach Stephen Neiland to St Colman’s Park as his assistant while Willie Byrne and Brendan Sweeney have also made the move in a playing capacity.

"Stephen Neiland is a top coach and will show the players some the professionalism that (Pat) Dolan had at Cork as will Willie Byrne and Brendan Sweeney while I’m hoping to bring in another two in the next few days.

"We’ll also be working on the schoolboy structure to develop players for the club long-term because we don’t have the finances to go out and buy players we want, we’ll have to develop them."

Henderson is a managerial novice and, amazingly, he’s also the first Henderson (his father Paddy, brothers Dave and Wayne, and son Stephen are all goalkeepers) to step into top level management.

"I’m the first to do it and it’s something I can’t wait for. I was coach at Cork but the chance of taking on a bigger job than I was doing made the Cobh job very appealing. I met the chairman last week and told him I was interested and we came to an agreement very quickly."
