    Dunfermline v Hafnarfjordur

I see Dunfermline went out tonight 4-3 on aggregate, having drawn the away leg 2-2 in the same way Shels did and loseing the 'home' leg 2-1. I think this says alot about the apparent gap in class between the EL and the non old-firm part of the SPL, in that if there is a gap it is either getting smaller by the minute or disappearing altogether. Hafnarfjordur are from the same league as KR Reykjavik but would be considered weaker opposition, afterall KR Reykjavik won their league, but Shels were able to get past KR Reykjavik in the first round, outplaying them in the second leg, before beating even better opposition in the next round. I'd really love to see Shels draw Hearts now, it'd be a handy away trip, it's a name Irish people know and it would say alot about where the two leagues are right now.

No clear gap in class between the EL and the SPL = althoguh Shels would probably beat Celtic or Rangers they woiuld not hammer them.

Bohs only beat aberdeen on away goals last time albeit with 10 men.

It would be good to see Shels draw Hafnarfjodur allso (as long as Shels dont make a balls of it) but Scottish oppisition would be my preference- Well known yet beatable.

Well I don't think we can, they'll be unseeded in the draw I think and Shels are definitely unseeded.

Hard to base quality of leagues based on 1 result but wou;ld seem to indicate eL & non Old foirm SPL ain't to far away & probably only gonna get closer cos SPL teams have serious money problems.

Shels are better off avoiding a British club. Too many a***holes come out of the woodwork in Dublin to cause trouble for the visitors.

I wish Shels good luck in the draw, the very fact they will get a seeded club should be enough to draw the fans out, without any extra nonsense attached.

    It's Lille!
Well now they can compare themselves to Cork's attempts against Frech opposition.

Admittadly Lille have got further in Inter Toto Cup but Nates are much bigger club than Lille...

Still draw or even win for Shels would do nicely for co-efficient...

Lille finished four places below Nantes in the French league in 10th position, and Cork pushed Nantes very very close. I'm confident we can do it, Lille will be favourites but Split were favourites aswell, it's a difficult draw but it could have been worse (We'd a one in five chance of drawing bleedin' Lazio!) so I'm relatively happy with it. Would have prefered Hearts but it's not a bad draw.

wouldn't say very very close, they were two goals clear in fairnesss, no offence to Cork's great display. We need a win in Tolka to have any hope, then go over there for a draw, which we could pull off.

When they were 1-0 up if they had of scored, and they came very close, they would have won the match. You can't get much closer than that.

Sure jayzus, if Deportivo hadn't scored those 3 goals and we had've scored one, we would've gone through. Ifs and buts mean nothing in football, fact is, Nantes won by two clean goals, one of them an away goal.

That doesn't change the fact that Cork were close to beating them.

Yes, but it's all gotta be put in perspective, Nantes knew what they were about and had the class to put away the away goal, plus it was already 3-1 in their favour, they weren't going to push themselves too hard when it looked preety much wrapped up.

Nantes had city on the ropes at 3-0 in France but City kept going & got late away goal to keep alive. At the cross when 1-0 to City in second half Nantes were hanging on & couldn't get out of their own half for about 15mins before late mistake cost City the game.

Shels have better team than City so should have better chance. If ye win
1-0 or keep home leg scoreless will be very close.

Yup, for much of the 2nd half it looked as if a 2:0 win was on the cards for Cork. In the end the 4:2 agg. flattered Nantes. With Shel$ being slightly better than Cork & Lille being slightly worse than Nantes it gives Shel$ a GOOD chance to make the group stage
