No Marty, I said it is one of 3 goals that are hard to call for Goal ofthe Season, 1. Colly James in Athlone, 2. Colly James in Limerick and now 3. Daniel Purdy in Flancae Park v. Mervue. As it stands that is my order for them too !

For me Purdy's is no.1 but I loved Colly's diving header in Limerick it was just such a fine team goal with a sublime finish, the keeper didnt know what had hit him that night.

For my two cents worth on goals of the season
    James V Athlone
James V Mervue ( wonderful strike from the stand side into the left corner, gave the keeper no chance)
    Purdy V Mervue

As regards the game, again we weren't convincing. We were lucky we scored early on as otherwise it looked like it could be another nervy evening we we would struggle to break teams down. Teams have woken up as to how we play and are letting us have plenty of possession in the middle of the park because they know we dont have the penetration to play a killer ball, or someone to break from midfield to support the -all too often- isolated Shaw. Our two goals the other night came from a mistake and a strike from out of the blue, other than that we really didnt look like scoring. I know at this stage of the season its all about getting results but I feel those results wont come unless we try and shake things up in the next week, in personnel and playing players in their proper positions.

One thing that is noticeable in the first division is the problems that fast wide men can cause teams. We have seen it with Crawley at times, but if you look at Mervue and their two wingers the other night (admittedly not their best performances, but they are capable of better) as well as Gaffney for Limerick it is clear to see that a more width orientated game is required. In our 4 signings in the window, we didn't address our lack of a right winger, which we havn't had all season, playing players out of position to try and cover up. Crawley and Lee are strong down the left, but not utilised enough. Gary Shaw is decent in the air, but all too often his headers are won further out the pitch and not in goalscoring positions. It can be frustrating sometimes that despite more often than not having the numerical advantage in midfield, we can seem to have players supporting shaw quick enough.
To that end, hopefully with James back he can slot in right full, with Bayly moving into the holding role, and Sammo in an advanced midfield role, recycling knock downs and moving the ball out wide quickly to purdy / crawley.

Ok rant over, but I do feel we have a chance of going up, and going up top, if we can keep applying pressure on Limerick one would hope they may slip up again.

One final point, why cant the club supply ball boys/girls? I think its only a matter of time before a player injures himself climbing a wall to retrieve a ball when there should be young players there to speed things up if needs be.

Agree with a lot of that and I posted something similar after the Harps game but I wouldn't agree that we didn't look like scoring apart from the goals. We should have had five or six. You might not be confident that we'd finish the chances but that's a different argument. I thought it was a pretty comfortable performance really.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.
