Galway United will be without their Irish under-19 international midfielder John Russell for around another month – the highly-rated teenager has been suffering from shin splints all summer and will not return to full training until September.
Russell began the season in tremendous style, earning a call-up to the eircom League representative squad for a quadrangular tournament in Scotland in May.
However, he has been feeling the effects of the shin complaint since returning from that excursion, and is likely to be out for at least another month.
Manager Tony Mannion will hope to have his young ace, who joined the club from local intermediate side Salthill Devon last year, available for the run-in to the league season, which ends in November.
Galway are currently in fifth place in the First Division table, seven points outside the promotion zone.
