Me know official attendances? Don't be silly!

The old eL annual gives top attendances for all clubs, though many of them are for friendlies against English clubs... Wouldn't be any good for the First Division either, as all teams have been in the Premier, getting higher attendances than the First.

Top attendances are given as follows:

Bohs 42,000 v. Rovers (Cup Final in Dalymount, '45)
    Bray 6,000 v. Newcastle (Friendly, '98)
    Cork 12,000 v. Dundalk (Premier Division, '91)
Derry 9,800 v. Harps (Cup Second Round, '86)
    Dundalk 21,200 v. Celtic (European Cup '79)
    Galway 6,000 v. Cork (Premier Division '94)
    Longford 6,000 v. Waterford (Cup semi '01)
Monaghan 2,500 v. Waterford (Play-off, '93 - possibly beaten by their game v. Dundalk on the last day of 2001/02, when I heard there were 3,000 Dundalk fans there for a crowd of...well...3,000 or so)
    Rovers No info
    Shels 12,000 v. Manchester United (Friendly '95)
    Pat's 7,098 v. Cork (Premier Division '99)
UCD 3,750 v. Derry City (First Division '86)
Athlone 12,000 v. AC Milan (Euroepan Cup '75)
    Cobh 6,612 v. Harps (Cup quarter-final '83 as a non-league team)
    Drogheda 6,000 v. Aston Villa (Friendly '94)
Dublin City 2,500 v. Liverpool youths (Friendly as Home Farm - '94)
Harps 8,000 v. Celtic (Friendly, no year)
    Kilkenny 7,000 v. Rovers (Cup semi '91)
    Limerick 12,000 v. Spurs (Friendly '81)
Sligo 7,750 v. Club Bruges (Cup Winners' Cup '94)
    Waterford 8,000 v. Shels (Cup semi '97)

No Kildare back then of course...

Lots of Cup games though, I'm afraid.

There were 21,000 people at Rovers v Pats in September 1990 for the first game in the RDS. Rovers got 18,000 against Celtic in the European Cup in 1986 but if you go back to the pre-1970s Rovers would have got crowds of over 20,000 into Milltown on a regular basis. Of course, these crowds were never 'official' .
That game in the RDS could have attracted so many new fans but unfortunately Noel King and Brian Kerr contrived to serve up the most mind-numbing 0-0 draw of all time. That game is probably the cause of so much cynicism towards the league.

We played the in the last game of last season and there was betwen 3000-3500 at the game so that would beat that.

Our semi Vs. Derry at the carlisle in 90 had abouty 8500 at it

If we're talking about league games in the last five years (after all that was the original question) Cork v Pats at Turners Cross in January 99 would be hard to beat I'd guess. Not sure what the official attendance was, but the Cross was more or less full, which would make it somewhere around 8-9,000 ?

Yep, around 3000 at it, basically as much as Whitehall could hold. Fitting that the ground saw its record crowd at its last-ever eL game.

Dug out my copy of the Irish Soccer Mag from Feb 1999 (No 132) - it gave the attendance @turners x as 10,000. I remember the Cork manager saying at the time how pleased he was to have the largest gate(money-wise) ever in the league of just under £40,000!

Not offical or anything, but I'd say there was about 11,000 at the Derry-Harps play-off game in the Brandy last season, possibly more.
Have you ever won the treble?

42000 is not the gypos record attendance no more than it was a Rovers highest attendance, as it was a cup final. so there was no actual "home" team. the gypos highest attendance would be around 10,000 imo.whereas Rovers would have had many games with crowwds of 25,000+ in milltown..
