Limerick FC Vs Longford - 3/8/12 - Jackman Park

Now I have the small matter of a Ryanair in from England for this one, and I will admit the Man City game did sweeten the deal and I was due a weekend home anyway, but I did decide on this weekend to come because this game was on. So I am hoping its the one the big game home hoodoo is finally banished and we put one hand on the league title.

Its remarkable how far the Limerick FC blinkers will stretch the bounds of self delusion isn't it.

What do we reckon, win, lose or even a draw?

Win. Longford aren't in great form, got the confidence up by beating them away in the last game between us. Think they'll finally break that home hoodoo in the big games Friday. Should be a good crowd.

Hopefully a win to set up an enjoyable weekend. If we can get the 3 its in Jackman then the Man City game will be an even greater day out and a possible shock could be on the cards up in Dublin on the Monday night against Shamrock Rovers.

Even if he threw out a team of nothing but u-19s against Man City, the squad would still be fatigued with a long away trip to Tallaght. Can't see much priority being given out to the League Cup.

Its not that long a trip to Tallaght in fairness. I see no reason why we cant win both games.

Id definitely drop Garry Sheahan for this one i just don't think he adds anything on the wing.

I for one will go for the win as we have a superb away record and have bought well in the transfer window. I will then wait for Waterford to beat ye again to really bring our title chase to the finishing line!
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

In with a right chance, so. Assuming the back four are kept stable and Gaffney starts.

I wouldn't say a win against SD Galway was the best basis for optimism.

Haven't a clue! One of the people closer to home would better answer your question!

Hopefully ye bring a good crowd. Should be a good game.

I think if the team and Scully keep their nerve we will have enough to beat ye, that doesn't happen too often in big games at Jackman though.
Our midfield against Athlone was terrible but we have Bradley and Gamble coming back to the middle and hopefully Sheahan will be dropped does nothing as a winger rarely takes people on and his crossing is no good.

We have brought in Robert Bayly and Darragh Reynor........Bayly will be a huge influence our our midfield if you ask me. On his day he can be a top midfielder. From what I hear ye we're very lucky to beat Athlone last week and ye only managed 1-0 VS SD Galway the week before and considering ye dont like the big games at home and we beat you last time confidence wont be high in your camp I'd imagine.....Should be a good crowd and I have to say the rivalry between these two clubs this season has been good for the 1st division with crowds of 1,200, 750 and hopefully another 1000+ on Friday......Ye we're very welcoming of us the last night so I'm looking forward to the trip again....CMON DE TOWN

We were nervy in both games but in the last 5 games ye have only won 2 and they were against both the Galway clubs and one was handed to ye by the ref so i don't think ye are in any great form yourselves. And the last time we played we thought ye a lesson imo. The big games at home syndrome is far more worrying for me then the last 2 games because i cant see ye using the same tactics as Athlone which seemed to be just kick us to stop us.

Id be confident enough for Friday with Bradley and Gamble back but ive seen us blow it so many times in this situation that it wouldn't really surprise me.

One was handed to us by the ref? Were you at that game to pass such a judgment? People seem to forget the fact that Mervue's penalty that opened the scoring that night was never a penalty in a million years, but never mind that, let's just concentrate on the fact we got a dodgy penalty at the other end.

Anyway, with regards the game on Friday, I fancy us to get a result. Hopefully O'Leary is out for ye coz he bossed the game up here in June. I'd be more worried about him than I would be about Gamble or Bradley.

    Just on that Mervue game:

The FAI have serious questions to answer with such people put in charge of regulating League of Ireland matches. Both red cards and the penalty which subsequently won the game for Tony Cousins' side were baffling
I was surprised that Mervue put that in their programme myself. There was more too but I couldn't bring myself to type any more to be honest. As for Friday both sides appear to be in sloppy enough form. The difference is that we're dropping less points. Don't think we'll lose the game but it will be a tight one anyway.
The ball is round and has many surprises.
