Shels backers

Hi,

I'm doing an article for Soccernet on Shels and Irish teams in Europe.

What's the name of the family who've pumped loads of money into Shelbourne over the last few years - the ones who own Fyffes bananas ?

Would be grateful for any help.

Fortunes change for the Reds 1987 - 1995

But tradition counts for something and passion always has its admirers. Shels survived the vicissitudes of having no money, no ground and no success, regained Premier Division status in 1987 and finally found a champion in businessman Tony Donnelly who had no previous connection with football, but threw his money and his keeness into Shelbourne. Tolka Park was purchased and a major financial injection saw a modernisation of the ground not previously witnessed in League of Ireland football.

One last question to yuo or anyone else on the board - there was a stat quoted in the media coverage a few times of how few games in Europe Shels had won before the Hadjuk game - something like 3 out of 37.

Anyone out there able to confirm the number ?

Go to uefa.com into Ireland club section & if you can find shels should have a breakdown of thier all-time European record.

Steve, just read your article on Shels in the Champions League (Kindly posted by someone on another thread in this forum) Super stuff. Especially liked the Bertie reference
