    The Madejski Stadium

i know its Readings home ground, but its also London-Irish home ground too,

i've been invited over by London-Irish for a game this season and was wondering has anyone been to the ground, i was on the web site and it looks very impressive.

Ha ha ya Lánger, I lived there for 4 weeks.
    Yes, in the Madejski.
    It's the dogs doodies!
Hotel is over priced though and the food is patronising.
Give me a shout if you're coming over.

Far and away the best of the out of town grounds that have sprung up since Justice Taylor did his hachette job on grounds in Britain. Handy to get to and actually you really can create a decent noise in the place.
Where am I now? I'm over here,
I've got those empty pockets and I can't afford a beer.

I've heard that it's a totally different atmosphere for the rugby but still good craic. Callaghan's Oirish Bar at the Holiday Inn on Imperial Way is the closest pub from what I can see.

    Do I know Conor?

Conor is their director of rugby and a former Irish player.

if we get a gang together it could be a good weekend, the Mcmanus brothers ( Elvis Costellos family ) play in the ground as well so there is normally a great session after the game from what i hear.

could be an idea when the season is over.

    I couldn't find that place.
After surviving The Grapes in Glasgow I was ready for another challenge

The Engineers Arms with its boarded up windows.

My brother lives just up the road so I pop into Reading a fair bit; Went to Madejski last season to see Australia vs Jamaica-just for a bit of craic. Great stadium-no pillars to get in your way or anything, really nice seats well covered, nice bar etc.
From ma bros last house (he's at uni so moves around Reading) you could see it from the upstairs window-really impressive site!
It's well worth catching the train up because they run busses from just across the road from the station (signposted), right up to the enterance to the stadium and back again after the match-£2 return also traffic is terrible when there is a game on.
Activly folllow London Irish along with Munster of course so it was well lucky my bro moving there!
For a drink after i'd recommened the Irish bar right next to the station-can't for the life of me remember what's it called though!
Sure it's an Oirish bar and drinks are a we bit expensive but they show every London Irish game there and is packed on matchdays.
there's another bar in town, O'Neils I think it is-I'm not to good with the names.
Few months back we got chucked out of one (not an Irish bar) on the outskirts of town for singing rebel songs!

    Scruffy Murphys?

In my opinion some of these bars should be avoided.

Nah it wernt' Scruffy's-will aask ma bro when I next speak to him. There used to be a Scruff Murphy's round here (Guildford) and a long time back it was run by Irish and had a good Irish crowd-lost that a long time back and evntually became 'The Brittania'-file that in the irony section
Saw a few Irish blokes round here looking for it and we told them it was called the Brittania now-"Why the f**k, f**kin Brittania, f**kin brits"

    The Mc Manus Brothers

The Mc Manus Brothers are good lads alright. I used to drink pints with them in the Thre Kings in Twickenham after games when LI were at the Stoop!! Max if you have a contact for them can you find out where abouts they're gigging now!!
Also another act that used to play with them was Peter Coughlan and Hungry Grass, he had some voice on him that Coughlan.
Is there no beginning to that mans talent !!
