According to one of the posters above there is no long term benefit to the club. None. That's a bizarre statement to make. Even leaving aside the financial benefits there's just as much reason to hope that a handful of those in attendance who wouldn't normally go near a LOI game may make the effort to darken the gates of Jackman Park before season's end. I know at least two people in that particular boat myself. That's not even looking at the increased profile we've had as a result of the game.

Not too sure it's increased profile. The folk at the game, we'll say, who have never been to a Limerick game, see them getting beat 4-0, by essentially a reserve, of the reserve Man City team. "Sure they can't even beat Citys 3rd string team, why would I bother going to watch them again?".

People always say it's going to increase the profile of the team. I remember Harps beating a Celtic team in 2007 full of international players, Gravesen, Sno, O'Dea, Balde, Pressley, Caldwell to name a few. Completely out-played, out-classed, and bossed around that team. This was a Harps team absolutely flying at the time, and playing some great football. There was something like 6,000 in Finn Park that day, next home game we were back to 1,500, the same as we were getting most of that season.

It'll take more than getting beat 4-0 by Man City in front of 20,000 people to raise the profile of the club.

Don't disagree with your overall point here that there will be little tangible gain from increased profile but there's definitely more awareness of the club around town than previously. Now all going well this bit of publicity will hopefully be followed by firstly promotion and then a return to the "spiritual home". All of these things together are worth something, it all adds to the construct that we are a club that is moving, finally, in the right direction. It's not that long ago that we were up in Pike, last in the First Division by a country mile and playing in front of SD Galway type crowds. Drawing the current Premiership Champions HAS raised awareness of the club in the city, I've never seen billboards with Limerick on them before for example.

It's not going to turn us into Manchester City over night, it won't even turn us in Cork City overnight but it has definitely, despite the unsavory incident, helped raise the club's profile, it's just another small step but from my point of view what matters is that it was in the right direction.
The ball is round and has many surprises.

Good runout for the U19s, they played well and went ahead early through Andy O'Connell but 2 goals from Colin Kazim Richards and a peachy free kick from Gamst Pedersen settled it.

Heard of the Clifford lad, never heard of any of the rest. Saw their youth team playing last year against Man Utd in the Youth Cup, don't think any of them apart from him were playing. Must be this year's u18s.

I sure you aren't confusing him with Conor Clifford. Never heard of any of them myself, not that I'd be tracking reserve English teams.

Don't think so, this lad's English, considered a decent prospect I think.

Nathan Ake was playing too wasn't he, dutch underage captian, just won the euros didn't they, was u19 or something afaik, pretty sure he was in america with them (1st team pre season) as was Billy Clifford. I've also heard of Todd Kane and Banford thats about the height of it. They tend to loan a lot of the best kids out.

Yeah Ake was the one that impressed most from the Chelsea team. Very well controlled on the ball and composed. He could be good in a few years.
