DID YOU NOTICE A SIGN OUTSIDE MY HOUSE...?
Ah, not so bad as have a foot in both camps...
Left one in Dublin like mine... :P
Back on topic... I think this sums up Crooks as a pundit...
Fast forward to 07:19.
DID YOU NOTICE A SIGN OUTSIDE MY HOUSE...?
Thanks, though 10 minutes of him, waiting for the odd gem, is almost on a par with Crooks's total output.
Met Crooks years ago at a BBC reception, nice enough as a fella, but totally bland as a pundit.
Amazed he's even still going on the TV gravy-train...
...nothing bizarre about it. I was quite taken aback to discover the meaning of disenter. I always took it to mean atheist/humanist/"not arsed with religion" but there you go.
I was going to say because it's as made up as Nausican Dom-jot but it's more important to highlight my suspicion that, on a global scale, most association football fans have never even heard of so called Gaelic football. I'll stop and be nice now though.
" I wish to God that someone would be able to block out the voices in my head for five minutes, the voices that scream, over and over again: "Why do they come to me to die?"
I should clarify, the comment was bizarre in context (It seemed preachy[no pun intended]), not the accuracy of the content of the comment.
All sports are made up. There was no football tree.
In 1863 some lads sat in a pub in London and founded the Football Association. How anyone can have such a superiority complex over the naturality [sic] of some sports over others just confounds any sort of rationality.
Unless of course they are talking about rugby league or baseball.

To be fair various forms of football, some closer to GAA or rugby, were going on long before that...
Back on subject :-) I've no problem with people objectively placing Ireland bottom of the heap, if they studied all the teams and knew something about them. But Crooks obviously doesn't, nor do many of the so called experts. It's escaped me now but there is one Irish journo who speaks Croatian and has a very, very good knowledge of the game there, it'd be him I'd look to for info, not some clapped out squad player from the 1980's.
edit: Sport is sport, if you have to slag off another sport to try make your own look better, then you are bankrupt. All sports offer something different and there's nothing better than watching a good game of gaelic football (even though I've not seen many for a while).

I don't mind an English pundit saying our chances are non-existent. England are not in our group. It's more honest than the usual pat on the plucky head with the usual stereotypical drivel, that win or lose the Irish will all get píssed drunk.
Then I should also clarify -and apologise - I didn't intend it to read preachy. More in the tone of Waynes World-esque "did you know that? -I did NOT KNOW that!" kind of styl-ee was my intention.
Fair comment in all regards. I do think too much is made mind of the codification of football taking place in England. I acknowledge and applaud the vision of those involved getting the ball rolling (again no puns) in terms of standardising the game but it is sometimes depicted that they plucked a game out of thin air and "gave it to the world" which is at best, I feel, economical with the facts.

Looking forward to this weekend. Ireland playing England in the U20 Rugby World Cup, Ireland playing New Zealand in rugby and the little matter of Croatia in the Euro. A great weekend for anyone who loves all football codes we are involved in. While I don't think we can beat the Kiwis, hopefully we have wins in the other two games!
I'm not fussed at all about the rugby I have to say. It'd be nice to win but losing won't exactly place a grey cloud over my head traveling to Poland. There's only one gig in town this weekend as far as I'm concerned.
Completely with ya Stutts on this.
I hate the summer tours down under. Inevitably when it concerns Ireland they are monotonous and usually end up in 2-3 losses. Then comes the soul searching and the navel gazing and will Deccie quit crap before the Heineken Cup and the Pro12 return.
Only one game in town this month. Cos Dublin don't play Longford or Wexford til July 1.

classic english punditry. makes an assertion that croatia have a great side and then struggles to name players. the ones he does played in the prem.
Yip. That's why it has exercised our ire so much.
