    Mervue

Deserved win for the home side in Galway tonight as they produced the few moments of quality up front to put away the Youths who, once Mervue had been able to match them for physicality, found they had little else to offer. With Wexford missing a number, including Shane Nolan, Aidan and DEano who would normally play wide, Youths started with Graham, Mark, Jamie, James, Jimmy, Craig, Patsy, Shane Dempsey, Eric Danny, and Tom up front. First chance of the game fell to Mervue after two when a Mervue forward was found with a cross in the clear but he headed badly over. Wexford generally dominated thereafter but without creating too much. Mervue then set up another good chance after 20 when a cross found another Mervue forward in the clear but his half-volley on the turn was put over. Wexford's first real chance came midway through the first half when Shane D. put Danny clear down the right but a tame shot was collected easily by Forde in the Mervue goal.

Remainder of the half was fairly uneventful but with four to go, Wexford gave the ball away in their own third and Molloy slotted it home nicely for 1-0 to Mervue at half-time. Second half was generally more of the same with Wexford trying hard but not being able to create anything with Tom, in particular, being well-shackled up front. After ten, Graham got down to keep out a Mervue effort. With fifteen gone, Forde did well to keep out a flick-on by Wexford from a corner. After twenty, a neat cross from the right by Mervue was headed home easily by Murphy for 2-0. With less than 25 to go, Clarkey and Chris Fenner came on for Eric and Mark. However, Wexford still failed to create much and, with five to go, a cross from the right was slotted home by Murphy for Mervue's third. In injury time, Corkey came on for Jamie and last action was a yellow for Patsy for a tackle.

Best for Wexford on a disappointing night were Patsy, Craig and Jimmy Dermody while Mervue impressed across the pitch in working hard to keep Wexford from creating virtually anything during the ninety minutes. Youths will probably point to the missing players out wide for the performance on the night. 3-0 to the home side at full time.
