I can see the optimism for Italy and croatia, but why are you so sure against Spain?

They may be the best side in the world, but they haven't played Ireland yet.

Croatia would finish second due to conceding less goals against us.

Let's not get into technicalities here. The important thing is we're going to win, with late call-up David Connolly to finish top scorer with 22 goals.

Ireland will basically be playing at home in all games. The support will be immense.

Ireland 1 Croatia 1, Spain 0 Italy 0.
Spain 2 Ireland 0, Croatia 1 Italy 1
Ireland 1 Italy 0, Croatia 2 Spain 2.

Ireland qualify for quarters and play Ukraine. Dodgy decisions go against us and we go out on penalties.

Doing a predictions thing in work and I went for:
Ireland 1 - 1 Croatia
Spain 0 - 0 Ireland
Italy 1 - 1 Ireland

This is enough to see us through as Spain beat Italy and Croatia and they draw the game between them.

QF and it's;
France 0 - 1 Ireland

SF and the miracle run comes to an end;
Netherlands 2 - 0 Ireland

Yeah just had a quick look. Thats the crux of it, its just that normally some excel geek has set it up on excel and it does the rounds on email. Thanks for the link.

Spain v Croatia / Ireland v Italy.

We wake up on the morning of the 18th of June and we need to beat Italy and hope Croatia don't beat Spain.

Would you take that if offered to you now ?

I think id take 2 draws to start with and all to play for winner takes all against italy now, but not 1 point going into the last game, and hoping for another team to do us a favour, especially when that team has already qualified.

I think we can get a point against Croatia and frustrate the life out of Spain for 90 minutes.

Not that it's misplaced in a certain sense but there's a sense here that we are over exaggerating the Italy game and under exaggerating the Spanish game.

To me the predictions on here and general consensus just hammers home what a real sh*t sandwich of a group we have when Italy are the bright spot, the hope. They are Italy after all. Still hopeful though, and if we pull this one off it will rank alongside any.

Game 1 : 1-1

Game 3 : 1 -0 Ireland (in an act of absolute theft, we somehow mug them and hang on)

One trend is we always remain optimistic before games but inevitably reality hits us after the game when the cold light of day(result) is the harsh reality.

You can play it up but we got here and all that, fair enough, but we never got the results we thought or hoped, instead we got results that just got us there.

This time we actually need the results we hope for.
