Watched both u19 games this week. There are some benefits of living in the midlands.

On Tues night the pitch was in great condition and the crowd 400-500. It was an entertaining match with both sides evenly matched, enjoying periods of dominance. Pat Fenlon was an interested spectator. Thomas Hoban was solid and put in a commanding performance. Michael Drennan hits a decent free kick and played well. Seani Maguire had a lively cameo towards the end. Hoban, Drennan and Kenneth McEvoy were the standout performers.

On Thurs the game was moved to Flancare from Athlone. The crowd was about 400. Ireland started slow with 10 changes from Tues team. Pierce Sweeney is massive for this level and was a rock in defence. His challenge which gave the Czechs their penalty could be heard all over the ground. Brandon Miele hit three vicious long range drives with two on target and one crashing against the crossbar. Danny Rogers made two outstanding saves. Kieran Sadlier was busy and looked promising on the night. McEvoy again was a joy to watch. Crossing off both feet there was excitement everytime he got the ball.

The crowd probably thought he was Gareth Bale.

If you had to pick would you say McEvoy is the best player right now?

based on the last two games yes. He came on as a sub on the Thurs and was one of only a few players who appeared in both games (others were Steven Smith, Brandon Miele, Ryan McConnell and Paul George). Our best attacking spells in both games were when he was on the pitch. Hoban also stood out. He played the first game before being released as he was needed for club duty on the Saturday.

According to the club's website, Mahony was born in Germany and joined from a local side. There would be a fair few Irish out that way alright.

Also incorporated into the preseason which Paul Mahony born in Germany July 31, 1994 and plays at left comes from Torrevieja CF
This English-language blog about Torrevieja mentions another Irish name at the club, Conor Heferman:

Beat gibraltar looks a very attacking line up - dreenan, roberts, grealsih george and mcevoy to come back in hopefully for qualifiers lots of attacking ability there

well deserved really think noel king is doing an excellent job. I think he sees the bigger picture that while his obvious role is to build competitive under 21 teams he also has to ensure we bring through players for the senior team and reward players who have shown loyalty to us when under pressure from other associations be that the brits or the north or even maybe the states to switch. i have been critical of doolin in the past for treating his 19s as his team with no consideration for ensuring players like duffy, mcginty and mceleney feel wanted for ireland even if he does not want them

This article from a non-Irish source certainly doesn't under-rate our Mikey!

    Samir Carruther (Aston Villa)
Tricky 19-year-old playmaker who impressed during three first-team cameos for Villa - against Liverpool, Manchester United and West Brom - last season, but has yet to play under Paul Lambert. Made the news when he was fined £500 by Lambert for making a call while at Villa's training ground

    Jack Grealish (Aston Villa)
A highly-touted 17-year-old, who has played regularly for Villa's Under-21 side and the Republic of Ireland's youth teams. Been at Villa since a six-year-old and generally plays on either flank, although he can play behind the striker.
