Wixted in from derby who seems to have good reputation at club level but was not involved massively with us at under17. The american Gooch is in the squad his mum is irish

Edit :Apologies to Cornflakes who posted this in the irish abroad section earlier which i didnt see
If Grealish is so put out by Doolin why is he bringing along his mates to meet him?

And following on from the home based/u19 league discussion good to see a few more involved in the u18s

Ben McLaughlin Everton FC (ex Dundalk)
    Sean Coyne UCD AFC
Tom Mulroney St Patrick’s Athletic FC
    Kevin O’Connor Waterford United FC

Mulroney is a midfielder and was part of the u17 squad last year that qualified form first group but lost to Serbia and Holland in the Elite Round

Mason Watkins-Clarke and Lyndon Gooch? Good to see the FAI isn't just relying on old-fashioned name profiling to indentify granny rule prospects.

Well, Clarke is a predominantly Irish name and I think the name 'Gooch' originates in Kerry.

Gooch is pure english. I think there are literally around 5 in Ireland.

What's up with the whole Clark(e) thing. There are 70 times more Clarkes in Ireland than Clarks. Clark is 40 times more frequent in england than Ireland. I know Ciaran Clark's mother is Irish but I always presumed his father was an Irish Clark, maybe by descent although it's more likely he is an english Clark? I've just realised this is totally OT but if anyone can shed any light?

An XI of possible, future, exotic-sounding Irish players would be fun. Noe Baba, Cemal Ramadan, Mason Watkins-Clarke, Lynden Gooch, Bradley Garmston, Samir Carruthers,
    Malike Benrouggibbi, Jordan Tarrant-Lowry.

Wait till the Polish etc start coming through and it'll be a commentators nightmare. I think it's marvelous.

Totally agree, and you see it in all sports, Tipp had two Polish goalkeepers at U14 and U16 Gaelic Football this year. Keeping the tradition of good Polish keepers alive.

Just wait until my (1/2 Polish) lad gets older...his grandad was 6 foot 8 and his auntie is a pro volleyball player. His hands are nearly as big as mine already.

I've previously advocated procreation with the multitude of Brazilian language students in the country and would like to renew that appeal at this moment.

I'm with that. I'm sure I could find some volunteers, on the male side at least, for that procreation procedure.

I'll get lambasted for this, but I think the Irish underage teams are a special case, for a few reasons. We're one of a few countries where the diaspora is spread far and wide, and sometimes you've got to take a chance on a player (such as Grealish - haven't seen him myself, but plenty of lads who have seen him seem to have jizzed themselves quicksmart, so he must be decent) if he's interested because our top-quality playing pool is relatively small. However, I'm a big believer in getting the structures right from the ground up, and ideally that would begin with the League at home*, but after that having the underage teams constantly qualifying and making the finals is the next best thing. Instilling a winning mentality will only stand in good stead and would raise expectations of the players that do progress to the next grade, be that 17's -> 19's, 19's -> 21's or 21's-> Seniors.

Just in keeping with Yard of Pace's post about exotic names, there are some too in the recently announced U15 side.
