U19 squad announced.
Big suprise that 16 year old, Castlebar Celtic Player and U17 captain Noe Baba has been called up. Best of luck to him.

I'd still like to see a few more homebased players in the squad. Does Doolin actually watch any of the u-19 league here I wonder?

Great to see grealish in there. Surprised no roberts who scored at weekend maybe inverness wont let him go. Baba is with the 17s this week seems a massive jump for a lad who is not in full time football if he stil at castlebar
Why though? What makes reserve and under 19 club football over there technically better than here?
But since you asked, off the top of my head.
Waterford United - Seani Maguire
Derry City - Ryan Curran
Finn Harps - Cathal McDaid, Jordan Duffy
St Pats - Chris Forrester (I think he's underage?)
Limerick - Cian Collins

And how did the British reserve teams do?
Pointless argument.
Forrester is overage. Maguire from Waterford was in the last squad. Doolin clearly thinks he has better
Apart from Baba with Castlebar (who's outrageously good by all accounts), there's Coombes (Pats) and Lenihan (Cork) from the u19 league representing home. Pepper (now with Inverness, formerly pats u19s) and Sweeney (Reading/Bray) also show the u19 league here is starting to produce players.
Both of those lads unvolved in u18 squads last year when home based too. There's no agenda. Doolin picks his best squad. 3 of the 18 based in Ireland this time. Players like Maguire and Byrne off Bohs have been in recent squads.
Arguing over whether a 19 year old with Man Utd or a 19 year old with Cork is better based on the club they're with is pointless. Plenty of awful footballers have come through the Premier League academies. Plenty of good footballers have come through the LOI. They'll all find their level eventually

I wouldn't say it's technically better, but I think in terms of physical development the players in England are better able to mix it at this level, even if they're not as good technically. And I think if an Irish-based player is good enough to be playing international football he's generally going to be at least on the fringes of the first team, e.g. Sweeney, Lenihan.
The dozens of Irish youngsters who return from the English academies each summer and struggle to mix it in the Leinster Senior League beg to differ. League of Ireland teams routinely beat Premier League reserve teams. It's not so long since Bohs' reserve side "slayed" a near full-strength Aston Villa side.
Noe Baba is captain of the under 17 who now have qualified to the next round of the under 17's stage (2 wins and a draw) is def strong enough to play at under 19 level and i wish him good luck this coming week.
2 changes to squad steven smith leicester city defender ex arsenal and kealon dillon hull city centre mid in. Mcevoy will be loss out wide
