Jackman Park pitch wise has looked in very good nick recently. Athlone Town Stadium was very patchy last week. I get the feeling the take into consideration the surroundings as much as anything.

Yeah, no way is that being decided purely on pitch quality. I don't think Jackman measures up in terms of pitch or the actual stadium regardless. Will be interesting to see, whenever it happens, how Markets's Field measures up.

The only other pitch I've had the chance to see this year has been Carlisle, and that was a great surface and a great stadium. Suprised it isn't highter.

I dunno what period of time this was done over, but I thought that Terryland was immaculate on Saturday.

Well then the pitch rating is one figure SD Galway can't inflate.

I've been following these ratings since they were first introduced there's no doubt they are taking in the stadia around them as well.....Some very strange ratings at times.

think the ratings are taken from the captain of each team after each game on a 1-5 marking ,but from what i heard its not always done so these ratings are not accurate realy

Was at Jackman last night and it was in absolutely fantastic nick the best I've seen this season anywhere......However Jackman will always be marked down because of the actual ground itself.

Finn Park was in superb condition last night. Apart from the town end goalmouth, the whole pitch is in fantastic condition. A real credit to turn it around so much after how bad it was at the start of the season.

I am thinking you are correct as Athlone are 10th yet the pitch seems to be very poor and unable to hold much water which in Ireland is not ideal. I know yesterday afternoon a lot of rain fell in a short time period but the pitch was also very poor on our first visit earlier in the year the pitch was sand with a layer of grass on top

As for the rest. Surely they should be subjected to the same tests as Oriel.

It is actually a very unfair test. Oriel loses 20% instantly because of grass coverage. Also, how the hell can a bunch of players know if a pitch is watered. Surely they all are due to the weather in Ireland.
Did you not know that all players are qualified groundsmen and have been accredited by FIFA in pitch quality control.

i came on here to ask longford fans what they thought of the pitch and saw your post. so do you think De Jacks has according to the report the 3rd worse pitch in the league? I actually think it has one of the best if not the best in the first division right now. Athlones was very poor last week with some aquatic plants growing around the pitch

I've been at both games in Jackman this year and both times I can safely say it's the best we've played on. It was perfect for the last one.

Have you been to all their away games to compare tho?

Also, Athlone officials delighted with the good quality of the pitch in the RSC at the weekend.
I’m not pedantic...I’m merely overly concerned with minute details.

Must say I'm fairly surprised Flancare Park is so far up the rankings. Thought the pitch was very bobbly on Saturday night. Very rough looking in patches.
