[QUOTE=Gary]My God. This thread is a few days old, 60+ posts and no-one has mentioned the most deplorable faeces of any profession - H fúcking R. These have to be the most horrid excuse for giving anyone a job, with their superior attitude, using stupid buzz phrases, and generally just getting on everyones tits.

Thank you Gary, for getting us off the subject of mortgages and back on track to rude people and their jobs.

It might be a bit obvious, but the Police, anyone? I mean by that the German Lady's Constables of course.

I'm back in England again after having spent over 2 years here before and I have to say the Police have always been excellent.
Be it the airport Police, London Metropolitan Police, Thames Valley Police, Lancashire Police, Greater Manchester Police, West Midlands Police or whoever, I never had a problem. Sometimes I may only have been asking for directions but can't say that I ever felt intimidated or that they were rude.
That says a lot when you consider how many football games I've been to and the massive job they have to do there.

Hasn't started coming through yet as the sale hasn't gone through but will be saving €110 p.m. on the mortgage repayments for the first two years, they're paying €635 towards legal fees ( , my work pays the rest as part of Relocation to dublin), home insurance and life insurance paid for the first year. Looks like it could be worth about €3500.

    anyway, back on topic,

    HR people, definitely

    Actually, Peader... me too!

    I'll get me coat

Mind you, when 800 Tims turned up to see the Scottish Giants play good natured testimonial against plucky li'l Wycombe Wanderers in 2001, the TVP put out more officers than are seen at a full Man Yoo game, eating into what meagre money was being raised for the retiring footballer. But, yes, they were fairly polite I suppose. And the police steering Ireland fans towards Charlton last summer couldn't have been more laid back, I thought.

I was thinking about this last week and it struck me that there is one profession in particular which each of us should have said. I can't believe it's not been said earlier.
We've all lost the rag with them at some stage and they're held in contempt by millions the world over.

I've got colleagues over with me who've planned to have dinner in the hotel and watch the game there so I'll give the bright lights a miss this time.
Flights booked for Dublin on the 4th, Basel on the 8th and Paris next month.
I'm hoping that tonights game is the only one I miss.

oh and back to rudest people in an occupation. This is general, but how about f*ckers taking interviews. I mean you go from one end of the city to another for an interview, they say they'll let you know whether you have the job or not. And then they dont f*king ring. OK fair enough, i can assume from that i dont have the job, but a phonecall doesnt cost that much, you can tell me i dont have the job, i can take it, but at least f*king ring so i can move on and forget it!

I agree 100% with you on this one. It's so fecking annoying when they don't even bother to let you know if you got it or not..

I'm not going to try and justify this but I might help you understand where the problem lies.

When doing interviews, you normally get a pile of CV's and a schedule. You normally get the CV's after the candidates have been invited for an interview. Most of them, you will dismiss simply from looking at the CV. Then you have the face to face and try to be open minded in case the person simply can't compose a CV.

When you decide on a candidate, you inform Resourcing or HR and they arrange to actual hiring of the candidate. It is also their job to call the unsuccessful candidates but the new hire takes priority and the task of calling the unsuccessful candidates can get lost in paperwork.

My advice would be to ring them.

Is that really how it's done? Not go through the CV's first and then decide who to interview?

Only has to be a simple letter and mail merge to let people know they weren't successful. 5 minute job if that.

I'm talking about technical roles where the interviews are lined up by non technical resourcing staff. They'll screen CV's for trigger words which relate to the role being offered.

Let's say the job is for a Database Administrator, they'll screen for SQL, Oralce etc. and then offer an interview.

What might actually be on the persons CV might be something like, "There was an SQL box in my last job. I was required to recycle the power on it more than once."

Five minutes if someone actually goes about doing it. A person who hasn't had a successful interview with your company usually gets little further consideration. Unfortunately, it's the way things are.

The majority of CV's are e-mailed now and don't contain a postal address.
I suppose a formal e-mail would suffice as notice.

Just would've expected them to be screened by the technical section as well, even if after HR, not doubting you were right. Seems a waste of time though interviewing clearly unsuitable candidates, when would be quicker looking at CV's first (less haste more speed and all that).

It does happen like that sometimes but often you wont be available to screen CV's so HR will arrange the interviews for a day when you're available and that's the first chance you have to see the CV's.

I try my best to give clear indications in an interview if the person is unsuitable.
