John Delaney on the YBIG Football Show

    Hey lads,

Here is the link to the show this week, really sorry I couldn't get Citizen on. There were loads of lads emailing me trying to get on this one, so apologies to the others also.

    ---------------------
FAI Chief Executive John Delaney joined Dave and the lads on the show this week. John is gearing himself up for Euro 2012 and talks about the growing levels of excitement sweeping across the country.

Dave is also joined by Gerard Blair, Chairman of the newly formed RISSCW and Philip O’Connor, our man in Stockholm who is preparing a report for Reuters, profiling the Irish Soccer team.

As usual, our fans man, John O’Neill puts all your questions to John Delaney.

    Coming up:

A chat with JD which includes:

    - Irish fans ticketing issues
    - Ireland’s supporters in the North
    - Coaching and the FAI
    - Irish players and supporters abroad
    - The mystery player?

    Great show Dave.

I think you managed the Delaney questions well - I guess plenty would have liked to give him a hard time but if you are building a relationship with the guy (and he showed interest in coming on the show again) I guess you can ramp it up a bit as you gain his trust.

Great guest fans as well - Varied insight.

    Keep up the good work!!

Any plans for a few recordings from Poland in and around match days? or for a few interviews of fans on the trains, coaches, planes heading to Poznan etc.. Would make great listening even if you put them up after the tournament has finished.

Also, I've listened to a football podcast which has an edited version of a running commentary during the game from the stadium. Its actually really good listening, brings back all the key moments from the match, the oohs and aaahs, the abuse the ref gets, atmosphere from the crowd (home and away)....just a few thoughts - logistically a nightmareto organise i'd imagine but all you need is an iphone these days it appears!!
I thought you were off the drink Ronnie?

"No, I drink to help me mind my own business....can I get you one? (c) Ronnie Drew

Couldn't you have asked John Delaney about the mystery player?

Really enjoyed the listen. Always impressed by Delaney's rapport with the northern fans and players.

On the prospect of an under-age fixture at the Brandywell, would the FAI actually have to seek the permission of the IFA to use it for such a fixture then?

It'd be very interesting if someone enquired at IFA HQ as to this...

Just looked up FIFA's Regulations Governing International Matches. Article 7.1 states:

"All International Matches must be authorised by the Members to which the participating teams are affiliated and by the Member on whose territory the match is to occur."
Guess that clears it up. The IFA would have to sanction such a fixture then.
