Longford Town FC vs Mervue United - 21st April

We host Mervue on Saturday. We already beat them away, and we should be looking to beat them well at home. I know we have a couple of suspensions and injuries, but we need to bounce back well!

MUTV will be coming to video the match and focusing on Keith Gillespie and his time at United and his time with us.

    More here!

Unfortunately, I won't make the game as I'm away, but I'm happy to suggest a few chants for MUTV as per the website article if people want them?
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.

yeah few chants would be great this really is a must win game. very poor if we dot get 3 points when they havent won a game yet. Great to see MUtv coming out, shows how SH!T irish cover is when they have to come across the water for the town to get on the telly.

All the Manure fans will be out to try and get on 'their teams' station...oh well as long as they pay in who cares.....not confident at all for this game can see a big slip up.

Not sure what to make of the game tonight. Expecting 3 points but then if we play the way we did last week we won't get them. Also Hyland will be a massive loss, Hunty has been very suspect in the recent games I seen him play. That free last week he should of had because it went in his side. He made a move over to where his wall was guarding and was caught out. But hopefully the Paul Hunt that started out for us when he joined us will be back between the sticks tonight. No prediction from me as last weeks one was well off.......apart from predicting Kirbs would score!!

Ye there will be flip all out tonight with GAH and Barca V Madrid on so crowd prediction 200 and not going to make a score prediction because I'm not confident at all.

Only good news is Mervue are missing some good players including former Town player of the year Tom King - http://www.extratime.ie/fixtures/detail/18116/0/

Very much a game of two halves. Great in the first, the second half... sat way too deep.

we were sublime in the first half but we were way too deep for the second half. gillespie hit a super corner for deansies goal.. collie james goal was goal of the season contender..
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

Delighted with the win and the way we ripped them up and went for blood early on and I think it was 4-0 after 25 minutes or so but after that we said to ourselves job done and conceeded 2 sloppy goals as Mervue played the far better football which was disappointing but had we been offered that result before the game we would have taken it so on we roll to the derby next week.

The attendance was absoutely diabolical and I'd actually expect our away support in Athlone to go close to matching it.....On the upside it was great to see camera men running around the pitch! Eat your heart out rte

First 25 minutes we were very good, and scored some great goals.. Shaw was impressive until he went off, but would have liked to have seen him get on the score sheet, its been a while since his last goal.. Their number 11 was very good last night, possibly the reason James started wide right was to try and combat him.

In the second half we were very poor.. We sat off, look dis-interested and generally tried to play out time.. Its not good when we go in at half time 4 up, but yet finish the game with a 5 man midfield and holding possession in the corner flag... In the second half I felt we could have made a few changes, Gave Walsh or Lee a run out, and show a bit more ambition. I know I should be delighted with the win and people may say we should be delighted with where we are (and I am) but in truth this is our best squad since we went down, and our best chance to go up, so we really need to be killing teams off and who knows goal difference may be important come the end of the season..

First half we were sublime, 2nd half we were awful no two ways about it. A lot of the lads out there couldn't control a ball and a few just wouldn't look up when they were passing. Agree about the number 11 for Mervue - got skill, pace, passing and positioning from what I saw, would be delighted if we signed him!
