From World Soccer - maybe you should read the whole article.

Heres one small section -Foreigners who cant adapt to English Football are Trashed as worthless. Milan Baraos? Hopeles. Helder Postiga? Useless. Juan Sebastian Veron? Forget it. Cant play, any of them. Juan Pablo Angelhas stuck with it for four years, brave foolish, lad, and now seems to have adapted. Probabaly at the expense of his career with Columbia. Worth considering, all of that. So Postiga helps to eliminate England from Euro 2004, and Baros topscores. How can that be? who is out of step here? The english game or the entire rest of the world?

A greta article about why its wrong to make the assumptions you are making eirebhoy.

Desailly has told us that English football "is too agressive, to the point im obliged to force myself to be bad. But its the only solution if you dont want to be eaten up.

Karembeu said he found the football "amateurish - it is as though teams are making things up as they go along all the time".

I saw the goals from the charity shield -none the result of good play - all the result of terrible defending.

World Soccer August - you should read it. take your english blinkers off

It was mainly injuries that halted his Burnley career though.

His whole career has been blighted by injury it seems. He was given a good contract at Middlesboro and was doing well until injured. I think it's abit premature to say he shuld be in the Irish squad. Given time though and on the basis that Jason Byrne has made it he has a chance ifhe can maintain his form.

that was me and I was referring to Deportivo, not Hadjuk. As I said then, If Moore and Hoolahan were to impress against Depor, adding what I know about them I think they both could be worth a look.

I want just as much as anyone for Ireland to have a very high standard league but we have to be realistic. We've seen so many promising players go from the Eircom league and fail in the English 3rd divison (most of the Carlisle team).

Veron, Postiga, etc. play in league's a lot different to the English league's. The LOI is pretty much the same style as English football.

Richie Foran was the only top promising player who went to Carlisle and he succeded in style in his first season before his own problems messed that up.

And recently we've seen Noel Hunt and others make a name for themselves in Scotland, but we're not batting an eyelid that Maybury has been included from that league even though he's far from impressed

Watched Dunfermaline on Setanta over the weekend. They had 3 ex EL players in their side, Dempsey, Hunt and Richie Byrne.

The Shels players like Byrne and Moore, have a chance to show Brian Kerr that they can perform at the highest level and it doesn't really get any higher than Deportivo. It should settle the debate about EL players playing for ROI once and for all.

I think the only thing all this proves is that can't generalise leagues. Dempsey was in 1st division with Waterford & a first teamer in Scotland, Richie Byrne was only average eL player & he also 1st teamer.

Very interesting. How about Jon Dahl Tomasson -flop at Newcastle but went to Feyenoord and won the UEFA Cup ( scoring twice in the final I think ). Several other good players came to the Premiership and flopped e.g. the Ukranian player at Spurs who was sh!t hot in the Champions League before that, the list goes on.
