Didn't Spain's Canizares miss the World Cup because an aftershave bottle fell from his cabinet onto his foot, severing a tendon? He was in his prime. Maybe he regrets sticking out a foot to stop it hitting the floor. Don't know if that'd be reflexive or reactionary though
Shay definitely isn't the inspirational force of old, but he's still a perfectly decent international keeper and good enough for us to have faith in. Westwood's good too but Mignolet (?) has been one of the EPL's better keepers this season so he was unlucky not to stay fit while in possession of the shirt.
Was it Canizares (sp?) who missed the world cup finlas for Spain as a result of dropping a bottle of aftershave on his big toe! Im sure ive checked this before just cant recall the answer.
Edit: Feck, Stapo just to quick for me there.....
I thought you were off the drink Ronnie?
"No, I drink to help me mind my own business....can I get you one? (c) Ronnie Drew
There is definitely something of a likeness to Stapo in Stutts.![]()

I deny any connection. I've even been known to smile on occasion.
I'll admit to decorating the wall of a flat I lived in with a huge poster of Frank in full elegant poise on the pitch. He was a man's man.
Thanks. Around 1995 I remember only having heard about him and on coming back from the pub one Wednesday night Sunderland were on UTV's League Cup highlights programme and Shay was in nets. I could tell right then he was the real deal.
That was a monday night... That show was on Mondays.
Jeez, you're pedantic!
Acc to soccerbase he played 17 games for Sunderland in 1996, all in the league, none in either of the cups. It must have been a league game.

Amazing save from Shay Given to keep Villa in the points. Wow.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.
Heard about the save but didn't see it.
Ball was chipped across from the left to the back post where Odemwingie leathered a volley full bore from about 5 yards out... Given just spread himself across and kept it out with his feet. Great save. You'll see it later, that's for sure.

Managed to find it after much searching.
Unusual save with most of his body over the line.

He did brilliantly to get the ball to safety so emphatically as well as just saving it.
