Hughton says no:
Newcastle boss Chris Hughton has dismissed speculation that goalkeeper Shay Given could make an emotional return to St James’ Park as cover for the injured Steve Harper.
The 34-year-old Republic of Ireland international has lost his Manchester City place to Joe Hart this season and is desperate for regular football. However, despite seeing 35-year-old Harper, the man who for so long acted as back-up to the Irishman during his 11-and-a-half-year stay on Tyneside, suffer a nasty shoulder injury at Everton on Saturday, Hughton will not be contacting City counterpart Roberto Mancini.
“I can understand that one and it is a very emotional one as well, but no, I can categorically say that won’t be happening,” said the former Ireland defender.

Phew okay, ill start breathing again. Hints at Arsenal flying around again, i spose if they offered enough money it could happen.
You can imagine the last person in the world Steve Harper wants to see is Shay Given.
Roma want Manchester City keeper Shay Given - and Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni *Trapattoni has encouraged him to consider a move to Serie A.

Given set to start for City tomorrow VS West Brom in the League Cup: http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Team-news...inst-West-Brom
Would add a little credence to the stories linking him with clubs outside England, since he'll be cup tied after this
Hopefully yes, but I just have this awful feeling he will make a huge blunder. it would just about sum up
his luck. Even if he has a good game it won't make any difference, so he is on a hiding to nothing.
As you say West Brom probably won't have many chances so it's a bit of a no win situation.
Mancini has confirmed Given will start anyway. As long as he shakes off a toe injury according to Goal.com

The fact that Mancini has now come out and said he can leave in Jan is not a good sign. Looks like the no 1 spot isnt even up for challenge. its very harsh on shay in fairness. I wonder if shay was english and hart was irish, would the transition have happened so swiftly.
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has warned any potential suitors they will not get Shay Given on the cheap.
Given is set to make his first appearance of the season in the Carling Cup tie at West Brom, just three days after Mancini confirmed he could leave City in January.
The Republic of Ireland star has lost out to Joe Hart in the battle to be City's number one keeper this season and, although he remained at Eastlands during the last days of the transfer window, is likely to seek pastures new when it re-opens again in the New Year.
Already Newcastle boss Chris Hughton has been forced to play down speculation that he might try and get Given back to St James' Park on an emergency loan following the injury sustained by Steve Harper.
Now Mancini has stepped in to confirm that Given is still wanted by City and will not be released without the buying club coming up with substantial funds.
"Shay is an important player and he will cost someone a lot of money," said the City boss.
"I said Shay could leave the club if he wants and we have a good option but if he stayed it would be OK for me."
They paid what, 6 mill for him? They'll hardly up the price?
He'll probably end up leaving for €4 million (to Arsenal) in January. Can't see his value rising if he's not playing.
He should be available on a free transfer or a small fee at best. Remember when Duff left Newcastle? He was on such big wages that Fulham were really doing Newcastle a favour by taking him off the books. Surely Given is in bigger money at Manchester City than anyone else would be willing to pay?
NO idea why Wenger didn't make a move for him in August.
According to 5Live he's made four top class saves, without him Man City would be 3-4 down. Also Cunningham is being 'taken to the cleaners' apparently.
