how can you say they would be happy to have him as their starting keeper? How come all of those clubs havn't tried to sign him in the past so?

Don't get me wrong, I think Given is the best in England, and possibly the world, but to state that all clubs would be happy to start him smacks of looking through those green tinted glasses

well then, what clubs wouldn't start him ahead of their current keeper?

Well I don't ever remember Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, or Aston Villa putting in bids for him while he was at Newcastle. Therefore I 'd say its safe to assume that all nineteen other clubs would not be happy to start him.

Again, I reiterate my point that I believe he is the best, but its obvious that not all premier league managers believe that. So to suggest City can let him go and Given will walk into any other premier league team he wants is just bravado

Just because every club in the Premiership didn't put in a bid for Zinedine Zidane doesn't mean he wouldn't start for them.
As tets said, pick a team in the premiership that would have Given on the bench? Even Petr Cech has been questionable.

Given is far better than Cech in my opinion. However, Given was available to buy, and was good value and none of them came in for him. Now if if for example Wenger didn't buy him back when he was available then, why would he now when he is older. Likewise Fergie, etc. So to state that he would start in any of the other premier league teams is if City let him go / sold him is a bit presumtious

Wegner's an idiot when it comes to keepers though and Fergie's not much better. Wegner got lucky in inheriting Seamen and hasn't replaced him yet, Arsenals would have another couple of titles had he followed his interest in Given up rather then deciding he was too small.

And I'd ask why didn't Fergie go for Van der Sar when he was available and went to Fulham but go for him a couple of years later to answer the second point.

Given was very settled in Newcastle and probably could have shown more ambition in looking for a move earlier. He had a sister living over there and his missus was a local so had a lot of family around him. I think he kidded himself that Newcastle could come good (qualified for a couple of Champions Leagues and cup finals while he was there) until it became glaringly obvious that they wouldn't.

But I agree, it does seem strange that no one made a serious offer for him, his height is the only reason I can think of other then the fact that goalkeeping isn't as valued in England as it is in Italy or Spain, managers of English clubs would never have splashed out the sort of money Buffon went for for example.

I agree Wenger is stupid when it comes to keepers and I take your point about Ferguson and Van de Sar.I'd have Given ahead of any of them. I suppose the point I'm trying to make is that not all Premier League managers think the same, and that if City for some mad reason let him go, I wouldn't be as confident in the poster above that he would start with all 19 other teams

What do you think? I was implying that just because he was in flying form on a stag, which people tend to be you know, that it didn't mean it was great news for his prospects of a quick return to action.

Not really relevant to his footballing career, but Shay figures pretty prominently in this Man City video, where they talk about a football pitch City have built on the roof of a school in a lower income neighbourhood in Harlem.

That's quite heavy praise from the local chap for a man who said, "China and India are gagging for football content to watch and we’re going to tell them that City is their content. We need a superstar to get through that door. Richard Dunne doesn't roll off the tongue in Beijing."

Is that Vladimír Weiss? I thought he was a young Irish lad. His accent is quite strange and there sounds to be a heavy Irish influence there. Maybe he was Stephen Ireland's room-mate or something.

That's Weiss, yeah. Quite a strong Manchester accent I think, maybe a hint of Irish in his word choice.

That Lexington guy and Gary Cooke... what is it Dunphy said about Sven and Garth Crooks? "That's the first time I've seen sex between two men on the BBC."

He obviously hasn't watched a video of himself, Giles and O'Herlihy: a threesome!

Has Given recovered from his injury? I worry about that as he, Dunne and Keane are the three vital cogs in the team.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

He's been training with Manchester City during their tour of the US but I believe it's only jogging and fitness work at the moment. He hopes to be back in full training over the next week or two according to this link https://goal.com/en-gb/news/article?contentId=2027573

He was talking about the Argentina game a couple of weeks ago but I suspect that might be a bit too soon for him

Hopefully you are right but there is more positive things said about Hart than Given in those quotes - SSN and journalist licence me thinks, though as long as Shay proves he's 100% fit - its his shirt to lose.

"Joe Hart will be first-choice goalkeeper for the next 10 years for England," said the Italian coach.

"I don't know if he will be my first-choice, it depends. I will pick the players who deserve to play.

"I don't know if I will rotate the players, it depends. At the start of the season I will decide who is No. 1.

"Shay is not fit at the moment. He is not 100 per cent ready to go in goal but we must wait and be patient because it was not a small problem, it was a big problem two months ago and we have a month more."
