All seriousness thoug-like I said, I agree with you that it's the manner it is flown in not the fact it is being flown. We just use it for the colours![]()

Just out of interest if this is the case where do ya reckon it does derive from?Originally Posted by Snatch
Crok was certainly at the heart of the fight for Irish independance along with other counties including Tipperary, however, and some would argue "sadly", there is a significant number in Cork who just want to forget this now.

The Rebel County phrase originated in the middle ages when a "pretender to the throne", one Perkin Warbeck, was officially recieved by the mayor of Cork. Am open to correction, but I think this happened in the 1100s.
Yet another example of anti-Longford bias - North Longford Flying Column anyone?Originally Posted by liam88

I read something with the term being used back when Donal O'Sullivan and his men marched north to join O'Rourke after defeat at Kinsale by the English forces in the 17th Century.Originally Posted by Conor74

This bloke I knew was at the Sydney Olympics with a friend from Kildare and they had a tricolour removed because it had 'a highly offensive racist and white power message on it.' The message?: 'McVeigh (the surname of my aquaintance and the infamous Oklahoma bomber, Timothy) and the Lillywhites On Tour.'![]()

It is legal to fly the confederate flag in the US. Although the flag is seen by some Southerners simply as a symbol of Southern pride, it is often used by racists to represent white domination of African-Americans. The flag remains a subject of controversy because some Southern states still fly the flag from public buildings or incorporate it into their state flag’s design. The flag is also used by racists as an alternative to the American flag, which they consider to be an emblem of what they describe as the Jewish-controlled government.
Would would you think of Dutch fans if they started flying Orange Order flags and banners just because "they are the same colors as our team"?
"Jacques Santini...will be greeted in every dugout of the country by "one-nil, one-nil" - Clive Tyldsley, 89th minute of France-England June 13, 2004.
"Ooooohhhh Nooooooo" Bobby Robson 91st minute.
That depends on how you viewed their use of it IMO. If they were using it in someone random game against Belarus or something simply beacuse it's orange that's one thing. If they were using it specifically for a game against Ireland as a means of taunting Irish fans(unlikely) that's something entirely different. It's all in the intent as far as i'm concerned. It's just like some of my friends will call me paddy in a joking context. I accept that as they are friends and i know the spirit in which it was meant. If i'm playing football on a saturday and somebody calls me a f**cking Paddy that's something entirely different as it's a racial slur.Originally Posted by Metrostars
The world is currently far too PC. It's like certain case of English people not being allowed fly their national flag outside their homes because it's deemed to be racist. nonsense.

Aye, well round England the SJC is 'acceptable' during a Euro/World cup on a house or car, during non-sporting times it's generally associated with council estates, and a butchers apron on the front of house is regarded as bad as running round in a white hood........though strangley round Whitehall and on public buildings it's acceptable![]()
I remember on St. Patricks day they put a Tri on Luton town hall and the Irish residants were partying while all the English one's went totally mad "my grandad would turn in his grave over in Flanders!"-aye plenty of Irish out there to!
Round here during the Euro Cup one of the houses down the road had a jack, an oz flag and 2 Sjc's on it!
I hung ma tri out the window and got all the inevitable crap......though strangley some the lad's who egged our house during the WC when we had the tri's up now have a Roy Keane Tri on the font of their hous? Does this mean they are Irish............
