I would seriously think that Killester United will win the F.A.I. Junior Cup because not only they won the A.U.L last season, they have progressed through the competition with minimal hype and the focus is on everyone else. I would imagine that it would be a close final between themselves and Ballynanty. I do not think anyone will fancy a trip to Hatton Park at this stage of the competition. For the others, I think that lack of national finals experience will be a killer.Originally Posted by widow

A question to all the forum regulars. Who would you fear most in the quarter final draw?![]()
i think at this stage of the cup none of the 8 teams will fear each other, i imagine the lims teams will want to stear clear of each other, getting a home tie will be great imptotanceOriginally Posted by Thunderblaster
I agree with that. Most of the teams left will be of similar standard ! There cannot be a major difference between them and of course it will be on the day !Originally Posted by cleansheetagain
I am sure all 8 quietly fancy their chances and are saying this can/must be our year. They draw will tell a lot !
Nobody wants an away tie at this stage ! I would fancy somebody outside the favourites as it seems to be that kinda of cup competition. Watch for the dark horses !!

It is really anybodies !!
Waterford Crystal are on a high at present. They have only been beaten once this year in all competition (This was by Carrick in the Munster Junior Cup). As we know they are in the 1/4 of the FAI Junior Cup and have played 9 League Games
There is a case to be made for every team ... Of the local teams , Carew have only been beaten once in the league(vs Pike) , Balla have suffered three defeats all season(two of them against Fview who are still the best team in the country) and Park have suffered one defeat in 90mins all season(there other defeat came on pens in MJC)
I am sure the other 3 teams left will have equally good records in their own leagues ...
There is a case to be made for and against all teams left in it. As the say "there are lies , damned lies and statistics" !!!!!
You can make the stats work for you any way like but it will come down to who plays well on the day and that little bit of luck !!!! Roll on the draw on saturday ....
Taken From Aertel on the RTE website
BALLYNANTY 2
KILLESTER UTD 3
WESTPORT 4
GALWAY HIBS 7
WATERFORD CRYSTAL 10
CAREW PARK 12
PARK RANGERS 14
BELLURGAN 14
i have seen quiet alot of carew park games this season and it will take a very good team to beat them. they might not all have the skill of pike and fairview but they can play some lovely football just ask fairview 5_0 but carew have one thing i dont think any other team has in limerick thay an awful lot of heart they work so hard for each other they lost one league game this year against pike and anyone who was at that game will know carew should of beaten them about 5_2. if carew get a home draw on sat... they could nearly pull this fai out of the bag.![]()
But what happens if they get drawn away to balla or park - who they play regularly and they go a goal down and they start fighting with each other..(very unusual to actually happen!!!) I agree they have a great heart and spirit very like Park which I think has brought both teams this far. They both might not have the individuals like there near neighbours but when it comes to cup football its teams like park and carew that want it most will come through.Originally Posted by l.f.c......

guvner its said your a park man do you play, would ye prefer carew out their, ye had some very tence games in the past no love lost,i think it would be the tie of the round
In Parks instance they might have had major success in nationals recently but if you were to investigate the history of a few of their players you would see that there is a few Fai winners medals and some MJC medals also. Not to speak of some winner Oscar Traynor medals and well as some league of ireland experience. A book shouldn't be judged by it's cover !!Originally Posted by Thunderblaster
I am sure the fact is similar with the other clubs left in the hat where players have different experience.
The draw will be interesting !
The draw will take place at 4pm saturday in the pike club as planned
what you said is right carew park do start to fight with each other when things are not going there way in the past. this season carew park has changed there is less fighting and more encourging that is why there having such a good season. to answer your question about what happens if they draw balla or park well i was talking to balla players and the last team they want is carew park it would be a very good game. as for park there is something between park and carew every sine philip purcell elbowed albert slattery on purpose in the face which he got 14 stichs in his lip since that it has been very very heated between the two club that happened last season and philip purcell has not turned up to play carew the four times since that happened (the corward) but mark my word knowing albert if he has to wait until the over 40,s to get him he will i would not like to be at the end of the tackle when or if he fianlly turns up![]()
Just to correct you on that last point, little albert jumped up for a header with Phillip and headered his elbow..there was nothing intentional about it. If you have played football before, you would know that you jump with your elbows and in this case it was a pure accident. Phillip Purcell is not the type of player to start fights. The way albert reacted to it was disgraceful and some of the words he mouthed off after the match were disgraceful also. Its sad to think he will hold his grudge forever. With regards to the match if they drew each other - lets just say it would be interesting.Originally Posted by l.f.c......

Will you cut out that kinda talk for God's sake. There is no need for it.
By saying stuff like that I think you are proving correct what Guvnor was saying earlier.
If Carew do meet Park in the quarter final I would hope it to be a good tough/fair game and let the best team win it.
I think it is better to say nothing on a subject if you do not know anything about it. LFC you have shown a lot of ignorance coming on to the site and bad mouthing a player , whom if you knew anything about local soccer(you obviously don't) you would know is not that type of player.Originally Posted by l.f.c......
I was there that night and I spoke to players involved with both sides after the game and the general consensus among those players was that it was a freak accident. There was no intent and while the injury was a bad one it happens in the game.
Both players jumped for the ball , Albert had a running start from the left side of Purcell ... Both players had their elbows raised(as does everyone when jumping for the ball) and Albert literally ran into Purcells. End of story , no intent whatsoever.
I think you are bang out of order and should retract the statement. Players should not be bad mouthed on this site and I believe you are bang out of order!!!!
Would be interested to hear if there was anyone else at that game that night who has an opinion on the incident. I am sure that there will be a few posts attesting to Purcells excellent conduct on the field of play for many years ..
Expect to hear from you soon L.F.C!!
Who said he refuses to play against Carew??? word has it that P Purcell goes swimming out in roxboro twice a week so he cant be that afraid of Carew Park!!Originally Posted by whistler
