total 368 - 334
Don't jump to assumptions without first reviewing the evidence. Crowds for the first division clubs are up this year. Averages are down, because Cork Citys 2,128 and Shelbourne 781 were considerably higher than the average and brought the division as a whole up, Monaghans was 372 which is flaoting right about the average and wouldn't impact it in any major way. Cork City alone had more than 6 times the average of the 8 remaining clubs last year.
If we were to add City, Shels and Mons attendances from last year to this years first division the average jumps from 368 --> 566 (585 without Mons) which is slightly above last years first division average.
The drop in the first (and increase in the Premier) is almost entirely down to the fact that City and Shels were promoted. Which is why when Delaney and pals talk about the increase they are more full of **** than usual.
Averages after week 27.

actually, when you think about it, the fact that the 8 first clubs are up on average is even more imnpressive given that Shels and City are gone, two attractive opponents, reasonable away crowds from us at least, don't know how well Shels traveled last year other than to Cork obviously, but City would have brought anywhere from 50-200 to most games, Harps/Monaghan possibly the exception, though there was a solid 30-50 in harps if I recall correctly.
I do remember being pleasantly surprised by Cork travelling support last season. Twas about 30 ish, which is great for the whole length of the country.
I'm still fairly happy with Harps home crowds considering all the s**t that's happened in the past few years, and given that we've had a couple of very poor seasons on the pitch.
Disappointed more didn't turn out when we had our 10 game unbeaten run, but to see a decent crowd of 550 back in for essentially a nothing game against Waterford was heart warming. There's still a buzz about Finn Park, and still a bit of atmosphere.
Next season is a big one for us. A big push for promotion will see how attendances turn out.

a couple of observations...
1) its a little bit weird that we have exactly the same attendance averages as last season... obviously we're down to our hardcore home support and hardcore visiting fans...
2) has anyone else noticed now that Nigel is doing the updates instead of Pineapple Stu, people have stopped the b!tchiness and accusations of bias...funny that! (Galway Utd fans the obvious exceptions!)
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.
Noticed that myself. A couple of strange looking averages. Sligo and Shels both on very round figures.
Harps fans, you know, take our word as if the good lord himself is saying it.2) has anyone else noticed now that Nigel is doing the updates instead of Pineapple Stu, people have stopped the b!tchiness and accusations of bias...funny that! (Galway Utd fans the obvious exceptions!)

Setanta used to Mike up the Jinks Ave stand where the away support and our singing section are accommodated. Last Saturday they seemed to to have just one in the gantry directly above where the Derry singing, section was, ours was further down the stand towards the railway end where I was, and I was unable to hear any Derry chanting but I could see them waving their flags, I could however hear our singing clearly because there was a strong breeze blowing it down to me and it's origin being much closer. This is a long winded way to of saying that is the relative position of different auditors to its source that determines the volume of noise heard.
Our avg. is less than half of what we had for opening game. Tis mad how much it's dropped as the seasons progressed. Will probably drop further with the remaining games.
For once maybe someone will call me "sir" without adding "you're making a scene."
Official attendance at Pat's v UCD tonight is 716.
Tallaght looked very empty on MNS there. What was the attendance?

3071 in Turners Cross I think they said
87 in Terryland tonight. I counted. That was about 40 Harps fans too.
