    I actually had thought of bumping this thread the other day but I forgot. Hmm, best back 4 at the moment? James Treacy McDonagh Lee or maybe Treacy McDonagh McCarthy Lee. Starting XI, hard to know what he'll go with on Friday but I'll guess;

    Bennion
    Treacy
    McCarthy
    McDonagh
    Lee/Tyrrell if Lee is out
    Quinn
    Gillespie
    Salmon
    Purdy
    O'Sullivan
    Shaw
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Treacy has to be played in the centre, didn't look comfortable at right full in the first half against Bray but he's been immense when in the centre in the little time I've seen him play so far.

For Friday, I hope it'll be

    James Treacy McDonagh Lee

But Tyrell will probably be playing due to Mick being injured. Once Havo is back he'll slot in at right back and Colly can be pushed further forward.

We can't have James out a right back. He is too valuable in the middle. Havo is only out for one game!

Bit of a problem accommodating Salmon, Gillespie, James, Purdy, Quinn and O'Sullivan in the team when all are fit. Not bad options to have though.

Quinn can slot in at left back like in pre-season. Lee will find it hard to get a place.

I'd agree that Treacy has been superb at CB but for this one game I'd move him to RB and play Colly higher up with McCarthy and McDonagh at CB with Tyrell LB with Mick Lee expected to be out.

However, I think our best back 4 is Haverty, Treacy, Hope and Lee......Some great options this year.

Completely off-topic, but anyone know why Dundalk suddenly seem to be calling themselves The Town?

They've always referred to themselves as that as far as I can remember anyway. Just a general Dundalk thing rather than Dundalk FC specifically I think.

Cheers, I've always thought it was the Lilywhites nickname, but The Town seems to be adopted more and more now.

Its the first time in a long time we have real strength in depth across the back 4.. I'd expect McDonagh to start tomorrow, as we should expect to have a lot more of the ball, and from previous years Salthill were never a long ball team, negating the need for McCarthy (for now). McDonagh although not the fastest will drop off, pick the ball up from the keeper and look to get things moving from the back. Alongside him will be Treacy with the two full backs being James and Tyrell I would imagine. With Des Hope, Mick Lee and Havo all to come back, things are looking good in this department.

I lived with a Dundalk fan. Its a thing to say in Dundalk The Town when supporting Dundalk FC! bit strange but true.
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

Pretty sure Athlone also call themselves the town as well don't they? Here was me thinking Longford was the only town in Ireland..
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

It's just the only one that matters.

There's an interview with Mick Lee on ltfc.ie and he has confirmed he is fit and ready to go tonight!

On top of all the players that we have lost, look at all the posters that have come and gone!

Injured, he had a knee op but is expected back in training in the next week or two apparently. Signed up for the season anyway so hopefully he's back fully fit soon. Seems a good lad and is a solid player.

Ah great stuff, I read he had signed but then could see no more mention. Great player for us last year.

This thread, again. Must be older than a few of the younger section O heads?

Ah it's that time of year again. This forum has gone very quiet, the youngsters are obviously too busy sending their snapneckchatnominations or whatever the hell the crazy little barstewards do nowadays

    Sullivan
