has Rico actually applied? Or is he just being linked with it like hes linked with every job?
If it was up to me I'd go for Kilbane with someone as a mentor. Has still a couple of years good football in him too. If you could get him with someone like Rico that would be a sure winning team.
https://kesslereffect.bandcamp.com/album/kepler - New music. It's not that bad.
I presume the likes of Kilbane, little, Newell etc would want a min wage of €1,000 a week plus free accommodation.Could Sligo afford this?
Rico would be the best person for the job if Sligo don't want to employ someone outside the league. Would Sligo fan be happy if Gerry Carr got the Job?
From what I read Kilbane doesn't have the necessary badges, I think similar to Darius Kierans a couple of years ago except Kierans was actually in the process of getting his whereas I think Kilbane only has a B license.
Put Rico in as Director of Football, in the proper sense, not in the makey uppy British way that is a recipe for disaster. Like they do in Europe. Then let Kilbane or whoever coach and get on with it. Let Rico build up a proper youth structure with scouting and development, and within 3 years Sligo will be in the EL groups.
In between all the marquee names like Kilbane, Little etc. Johnny McDonnell is easily the best name I've heard so far . . .
2 runners-up finishes in the league so wouldn't lack the personal motivation / appetite to win a title
Led Pats through 2 rounds in Europe
Was able to get the most out of the "mercurial" Quigley
Unlike many, McDonnell hasn't been out of the game since leaving the LOI (has been adding to his experience with Kerr, the Faroes etc.)
Miles ahead of the other names imo.
Fair enough, no silverware, but how much of that was down to the likes of Drogs and Bohs at the time having even bigger budgets?
Someone like Rico wouldn't have the drive / desire to win a league title now, and none of the other names I've heard would have enough experience of the LOI.
True about Bohs and Drogs but we never even game them a good challenge, Although that Bohs team was probably the best LOI team in maybe the last 20 years (maybe level with the Shels team from the early/mid 00's) but still not even a poxy league cup with. Nothing
Here on a technicality.
What part? Maybe the Kilbane bit, but the rest is possible. Especially with a decent youth set up.
Pats budget the year they finished second to Bohs was higher than Bohs or Drogs (and possibly highest ever LOI budget) at close to 3 million (FAI published budgets). They finished 19 points behind Bohs (4th highest budget listed).
To be fair, that was an awesome Bohs team that lost once (Fahey rocket home V Pats) before clinching the League title so no real reflection on Johnny Mac, good football man and (on what I heard from players) decent coach.
Oh and John McDonnell is a very poor manager
I hope rovers appoint soneone with serious ambition - if rumours are to be believed then someone like Little would be a disaster for the club and would jump ship at the first opportunity to go back to England , someone like brian Kerr would be ideal on that basis - at the same time it's great to see this job has attracted so much interest
