They're not called regions but for the last couple of years the groups were very much, eh, alligned...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011%E2..._round#Seeding
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010%E2..._round#Seeding

The year before that was the first year of the new Europa League and was completely random, but apparently there was a backlash about that. They won't call them regions, because they want to keep their options open to keep the sme amount of seeded/unseeded in all groups. So last year The 10 Northern seeds came from Ireland (Pats), Sweden x 2, Norway x 2, England, Iceland, Finland, Wales and, eh, Macedonia. The 10 unseeded teams came from Northern Ireland x 2, Faroes x 2, Luxembourg x 2, Latvia, Estonia, Iceland and Wales. Of those countries, Macedonia had another seed in a different group (cental/eastern) and Estonia and Lithuania had unseeded in that same group.

Once again its liekly the 3 fair play spots will be from 'Northern' countries. At the moment I'm confident Pats/Bohs will get one of these...

    EB/Streymur Faroes
    FK Šiauliai Lithuania
    JJK ( Jyväskylä) Finland
    Cliftonville Northern Ireland
    Daugava Daugavpils Latvia
    Llanelli Wales
    Crusaders Northern Ireland
    Jeunesse d'Esch Luxembourg
    Žalgiris (Vilnius) Lithuania
    IBV Iceland
    Trans (Narva) Estonia
    Por Akureyri (1st Div) Iceland
    Kalju (Tallinn) Estonia
    NSÍ Runavík Faroes
    Portadown Northern Ireland
    CS Grevenmacher Luxembourg
    Víkingur Faroes
    Cefn Druids Wales

Only those in bold haven't been confirmed. if a fair play qualifier comes from the lieks of Finland or maybe Norway, they'd be added to this

Also the league's co-efficient is based on 2007/08 to 2011/12. Our ranking is 7.375

    Drogheda -1.5
    Rovers - 1.125
    Derry - 0.667
    Bohs -0.5

I think it will be regionalised in the 1st round for sure as it goes out the window for the other rounds (due to the 2nd draw being made during the 1st round ties).

I am 90% sure the following will be the teams in the Champions league 2nd round (Northern region)

    Seeded:
    Belarus - Bate Borisov
    Poland - Legia Warsaw
    Sweden - Helsingborg
    Finland - Helsinki
    Latvia - FK Ventspils
    Ireland - Shamrock Rovers

    Unseeded:

    Norway - Molde
    Northern Ireland - Linfield
    Wales – TNS
    Iceland - KR Reykjavík
    Estonia - Flora Tallinn
    Faroe Islands - Tórshavn

    Dodge,

slightly unclear what you meant by above, but UCD would be our fair play representives (as usual) - an extra team to further dilute the co-efficient. In the provisional rankings from January the Republic of Ireland were ranked 14th.

2 different sentences. So. Fair Play team will come from a Northern Country.

Then, Pats/Bohs will get one of the teams listed below in the First Round
    Here on a technicality.

Party saint has it spot on. I expect the 3 FP spots to go to the Northenr countries. In the last rankings the top 4 were; Norway, Finland, Holland and Iceland.

If somehow Ireland got the spot, UCD would get the place (FAI have announced this). And yeah, our joint co-efficient would be divided by 5 instead of 4 because of that. UCD wouldn't be seeded

The Pats/Bohs bit just meant that I think we'll still get one of the teams listed, with the caveat that if the FP spot are awarded to Finland, iceland etc we could get that representative too

Apologies. I'd like to blame the drink.

Course I noticed the list after I posted (nothing to do with partysaint ). No idea how I thought the second sentence refered to the first.

    EDIT
Have the rankings ever changed between january and the end of the season? Or how unlikely is it that ucd will be in europe?

Well Ireland was 13th, so we'd need to over take 10. I thinmk thats unlikely. Can't see how the summer nations would change too much since then so we'd still be behind, at least, Norway, Finland and Iceland. I'm mostly guessing though as I haven't really followed it

Actually, just had a quick look there.

    http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/...7_DOWNLOAD.pdf

At the intermediate point in 2010/11 (ie 31 dec 2010) the top 10 were

    Norway
    England
    Sweden
    Ireland
    Germany
    Denmark
    Iceland
    Finland
    Spain
    France

    http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/...0_DOWNLOAD.pdf

When the final rankings published, the top 10 read

    Norway
    England
    Sweden
    Denmark
    Iceland
    Germany
    Ireland
    Finland
    Holland
    France

    So the top 3 stayed the same and we actually dropped 3 places. You can the top ten at the this seaosn intermediate point here;
    http://www.uefa.com//MultimediaFiles...3_DOWNLOAD.pdf

    Norway
    Finland
    Holland
    Iceland
    Spain
    Germany
    France
    Sweden
    England
    Denmark

Spain the only country with realistic chance of breaking the 'Northern' monopoly

Korona Kielce are now only 2 points off top with 2 games to go in Poland but there are 4 teams ahead of them so not looking likely that they will win the league
Sheriff have overtaken Dacia in Moldova...2 points clear with 4 matches left

Metalurgi Rustavi came from 2-1 behind to win 3-2 against Merani Martvili earlier today, while Zestafoni have just lost 1-0 to Dinamo Tbilisi after conceding a goal in the last minute. This leaves Rustavi 5 points ahead with 4 games left and firmly in the driving seat ahead of their home tie against Zestafoni on Sunday i.e. good for Rovers.

It is great news. If they win it and Bayern win the final we don't need to rely on Moldova (or any other league for that sake.)

Zestafoni are bottling it worse than Rovers run in 2010!
