eh, a lot of floating gossip. but there is another thread about it, his attitude has been bad and he returned to pre season a stone over weight.
he just used us as a stepping stone in his career and never let anyone forget it. alan said enough was enough and blasted him in the press before the european game.
here is the link to the other thread

"Super" Caley didnt want to pay money for him..they wanted to take him on loan for six months and give us two of their squad players on loan for the same period..We werent interested in that. Alan wants rid of him, one way or another, he feels the dressing room has improved no end since he left

I'm not surprised the deal is off after all the bad press. Obviously Alan is not going to play him and does not want him around so if no offers come in he should look to put him out on loan. I doubt the Town can afford to be paying him to sit in the stand as the wages bill must be pretty hefty after this seasons signings. Pity everything got so public as it leaves no room for manoeuvre at the end of the day.![]()
You're not wrong there, we definitely cant afford to be paying players to sit in the stand, so once 1 August comes those that have been spending too much time in the stand and not enough on the pitch will be offloaded if possible, loan if necessary

I cant imagine McGovern making too many appearances at Flancare considering all the bad press and bad feeling toward him! Is it a case of stay on our list and out of our way until Aug 1st and get rid or wil they try and make it look like happy families for the press? (so to speak)
Ever get the feelin' you have been cheated?
fcuk the press

cant see how that will help

they don't give us half enough coverage and when they do they run EL down, plus they give that knob end rody collins a platform to talk crap

I presume you are referring to TV3. I don't think that you can criticise any of the print media for their coverage of the EL.Originally Posted by max power
Tv3 is not the only coverage for El, i was referring to local as well as the rest!! happy dayz and all that!!

Well we have an obligation to pay him while he's under contract but whether he turns up to claim his wages I dont know, he hasnt been at training since things came to a head so I dont know if he'll turn up again now things have fallen through

Disappointed that you would include the print media in your assessment of EL's poor coverage. The Indo had a reporter at each of the European games last week; the three tabloids give extensive coverage, especially to Premier Division games, with supplements (the examiner is also very good for EL; the local press has always been supportive of Longford Town, with a minimum of a page devoted to the club each week. I can't understand where you think the EL is getting poor coverage in the print media.
his articles in the paper he writes for, star on sunday i think ?? haven't spoken too kindly of our league either....english division3 is so much better than premier division here etc, all negative.Originally Posted by town73
local press are great i must agree with you there ( thought you might stand up for them )......
but look at their coverage of across the water on an average monday, 16 pages, we might get one...
one of the biggest papers in the country, sunday world, had about 100 words on cork last weekend. first time i ever seen them with anything at all.
mirror are good on a friday but overall compared to what a certain scotish club get by themselves in the irish press, it is a small amount for a national league.

Didn't realise RC wrote for Star on Sunday - I don't get it. I can only imagine what nonsense he's passing off as serious opinion. As for the Sunday Worst, John Byrne does one article each week. Negligible and disappointing.Originally Posted by max power
If you look at the tabloids' coverage of the EL, each has a reporter designated to cover the league and each carry a preview and report and each game. They also have a columnist each week. The broadsheets also have designated sports writers covering the league - David Kelly/Gerry McDermott, Emmett Malone, Bill George. I wouldn't be too disappointed with the coverage. It's improving all the time. Believe me. Competition is a great encouragement to do better.
town 73 agree it is improving, but from nothing to something is an automatic improvment....even aertel are in on the act with el focus.
but as i said 1 game from a scotish team will get 2 pages of coverage, more than OUR whole league does, that is plain for all to see and just encourages these mupp€ts to support that club and run down OUR league.
internet based coverage is where i normally look as the press is so bad in my view, won't part with my money until i get value for money coverage wise and at the mo i don't.i wouldn't say i'm alone on that either.
BYW was that a sensible post by patrick
oh and patrick i don't read local papers either, i'm living in dublin 9 years and they have no relevalce to my life.

yes and the star of that movie was named after the cathedral on our crest. well i know there are a number of people who don't purchase papers because of the bad el coverage and for me the over coverage of that scotish crowd.
and you might not know this but bally duff has a strong town supporters club.

patrick, just a thought. you can actually make some decent points if you cut out the childirh rubbish in the middle of them.......
if i see a paper with 4 pages of el coverage on it, i'll buy it and so would any other el supporter who purchases papers.....but if i see a paper full of scotish and other non irish teams, i won't....as town 73 said sunday worst is a prime example.
match results and previews are all well and good, but i want editorials, opnions, thoughts on the game here....something worth having a debate on here on the boards, example....marketing of the league in general and of each club, or as was mentioned of the past few days with pats, a capping of el wages and penalities for clubs who go over a certain % of club turnover.
see 2 mins and i came up with a few topics, in the coming weeks there will be pieces on topics such as this, written by El fans from various clubs on www.onefinlongford.com , its a start isn't it ????

First of all the Sunday World has to be the Worst for EL coverage. Bought it a couple of weeks ago when Cork were playing NEC. Not one article.(on any EL team!!!) Yet they had the banner "For your Real Irish Soccer" running across the top of all their soccer pages. And what was on these pages? Celtic and Premiership coverage. They did however have a page on Nantes V Cork last week. Only saw it cos the old man got it. But I for one won't buy it again. Its now my policy to flick through the pages of a paper (looking for EL coverage) in the shop before I buy the paper.
The only paper I wouldn't do this with is the Evening Echo in cork which normally has good coverage. Albeit mostly only covering City, Cobh and Limerick.
As for Aertel, I can't imagine they'll have the same good coverage once the premiership season starts. Think their only giving EL coverage is cos there is no cross channel stuff to report on. I'll judge them in August.
