What if Crowley had an Irish passport before he played for England?

The requirement is that you have nationality of Country B at the time you play for Country A, so he'd be clear in that case.

Nobody would have even examined this rule if Luxembourg hadn't kicked off about Johansson.

Like there's no way Callum Robinson had a passport when he played underage for England u19s. Not a chance is he eligible either under these rules. It's a stupid rule and if our foreign births register wasn't a thing then this wouldn't be an issue.

Dan didn't have Irish nationality at the time he played for England. Being entitled to apply for irish nationality and being an irish national is not the same thing.
Dan was entitled to apply for Irish nationality and had he applied. his application for irish nationality would have been processed and he would have become an irish national.
But that was not done for Dan nor Ryan, before they played competitive football for another nation.

One parent has to be born on the sacred soil of Ireland in order for a new born baby to be considered an Irish national automatically at birth and only then does one forgoe the tedius process of applying to becomer an irish national.

Any irish parent living abroad applying for a passport for their child or grandchild has experienced the huge difference in requirements between both applications.
One application is a piece of cake the other is expensive and tedious.

If Crowley had an Irish passport (or more accurately, if he'd been added to the Irish foreign birth register) before playing for England he'd have qualified for us no problem. But clearly he hadn't, because his paperwork would have gone through no problem by now otherwise.

The Luxembourgers have really fecked us over here. Nobody had noticed the issue before they picked it up and the English would likely have had no issue with the Crowley switch, just as they didn't with Robinson. But now that the issue has been spotted it will come up time and again unless the rules are amended. Whether the FAI have the interest or the finance to follow it up at the moment is questionable though.

I can attest to this - my wife's application cost hundreds of pounds and took nearly a year (she qualifies through her granny). My daughter's took three weeks and cost £80 (she qualifies through me).

Hopefully he'll consider a move back to the continent.

It's tough for 10s, Crowley was doing well at Birmingham last year and then Karanka, who doesn't play a 10 in his setup, comes in and pretty much overnight there's no point to Crowley being there anymore.

Rovers should buy him to replace Byrne. Get Jack's mum to put him up.

Yes, he is eligible under the new rules as I understand it. Needs to find a new club this month though and get back playing again, has been linked to Coventry City.

For what it's worth I actually think Crowley is a younger, potentially better 10 than Jack Byrne.

Crowley is a far better player IMO, afaik with the previous manager he was doing very well in Birmingham, which is at championship level

He's from Coventry and I think started at Coventry so that makes sense. Would link up with Callum O'Hare too who is from a similar background to him- heavily steeped in the Irish community in that area and was with Villa.

https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/...-40216715.html good news. Really think he would improve us. Pity Kenny hasn't been in contact poor man management especially when it seems he is doing personal presentations to a 17 year old with a hand full of appearances in la liga

Disappointing that Kenny hasn't been in touch, even just to discuss how the paperwork is going and to let him know he's keeping an eye on him.

From what I have seen of both players he's better than Jack Byrne. Unquestionably eligible under the new rules.

Idiotic behaviour from Kenny especially when you have shown total inability to put a side out with a semblance of attacking flair so far in his tenure

Hardly disappointing. A player who hasn’t been getting a game and just dropped down to league one. He’s not even sure the paperwork is actually sorted. Great if he starts getting a game and the paperwork is actually done, then he might be an option worth checking on.

He's a certain type of player in which we are lacking and have lacked for some time, and could be especially useful at international level.

In a situation where we are already picking League One players, and even LoI players, and where Daryl Horgan has become more-or-less a regular for us, I don't think we can be turning our noses up at a player as talented as Crowley.

Crowley only turned 23 a few months ago. At what level was Wes playing at the same age?
