how come everyone at the club has turned against McGovern despite the fact that he had a great season last season and ended up being man-of-the-match in the cup final?
I think him and Matthews should sit down and settle their differences, and then get him back on the pitch doing what he does best...getting his big head onto everything that the opposition throws at him.
    we are going up

this is what i was wondering, i for one thought all was ok until after the dublin city game, matthews has an article in papers slating mc govern and word comes that hes left behind for the europe trip and on his way out of the club! seemly it just is not matthews who is pleased at his departure, many of the players are also!

Its just that the players and mangement felt he wasnt committed to Longford Town in the same way they were..he was complaining about having to play with a slight injury, Vinny said to him apparently that he'd play with a broken leg if it meant he was in the team, McGovern said "Thats alright for you, I've my career to think about, you don't.." Thats just one example that I was told, seemingly that was his main focus, his own career..Anyway he hasnt gone yet and you never know what can happen in football..We'll have to wait and see

Ignore Max Power, he is no more, the future is Ron Burgundy. I'd love to be Ron Burgundy but they won't let me........

    Unhappy

Gibraltar, you are a rock of sense. Matthews wanted a scrapegoat for all the problems at the club and McGovern got the short straw. Since then a campaign of vilification has taken place including, disgracefully, selected tit bits of dressing room chat which, whether true or not, should never have been revealed. No awards or prizes to those who betrayed the traditional code of confidentiality that applies to dressingrooms. Is anybody so nieve as to imagine that gutting a player in public makes the rest of your squad united and happy? On the contrary it has them all wondering who is next for the hatchet. Also Longfordian, many of the Longford players are not happy about what has transpired. Unfortunately in the existing fear culture they are afraid to open their mouths.
You would not need to be a genius to recognise that I have been a hugh fan of McGoverns since I first saw him in action at Flancare and in numerous matches since. I realise now that due to abysmal man management and lack of basic cop on by those who should know better, he will not play for the club again. In addition the club will make little or no money on his departure.

Thats just rubbish, theres no fear culture, the players get on well with Alan and Aaron, I've seen this up close. Dont think the players were overly bothered whether mcGovern stayed or went but im willing to trust the judgement of people like Vinny Perth who have been around the club long enough for their views to be listened to and as i said he felt mcGovern was not committed..this can be argued over and over again but we wont change anything..by the way McGovern is still our player and if the need arises he'll be used..unlikely but still possible that he'll play for us again
