The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

It will be a hard sell i think with it beign out in Ballon. Its just under 30 mins and 25km from Carlow town centre. All clubs have to start somewhere though.

One thing about it is they have a handy population to build on, and its not far from most other LOI clubs which is great. Only 2 hours from Cork so closer to all Dub clubs.

Think they're planning on playing in Kilkenny, at Buckley Park.

Are FC Carlow still going? As in are they playing in a local district league or was the team disbanded when the A Championship ended?

No, both they and Dynamos withdrew when the A Championship was scrapped - their Facebook page doesn't appear to be active either.

One year or so on, it's still disappointing that the A Championship is gone. Like the rug being pulled from under your feet sort of thing. I know the league has a low profile and was despised by some Premier clubs but for some of us it was great to have a club involved working towards the LoI on and off the park.

    A Championship: 4 years - 8 first teams - 0 financially ruined. First Division '14: 7 first teams.
Opportunity lost for new clubs/regions to join the LoI family.
