'Cliftonville chairman hits back at Swansea boss Rodgers over Donnelly price': http://www.tribalfootball.com/articl...-price-2582301

Cliftonville chairman Gerard Lawlor insists he did nothing wrong demanding more from Swansea City for striker Rory Donnelly.

The Swans were first to make their move with a bid worth around £100,000, which was accepted by Cliftonville.

Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers, who has personally scouted the striker and had him shown round the club's training ground, spoke of his frustration after formal interest from Everton apparently upped the asking price, but Lawlor believes he is simply doing his job.

Lawlor said: "Everton's bid is considerably higher than Swansea's. There is a major difference in the bids. They are miles apart.

"My job is to do the best thing for Cliftonville."
I have to ask, what exactly amounts to the acceptance of a bid? Surely some form of written agreement?

A verbal contract is binding, if it can be proved.
But a general acceptance of a bid is not considered a contract, that would be interpreted as an agreement to work out the details of the contract. If the details have not been worked out verbally then it cannot be considered even to qualify as a verbal contract to accept the bid.

Then you have to consider that the player is under contract with a club, which is bound by its constitution.
The club's constitution may well state that a decision to sell one of its valuable assets have to be taken by the board.
A club rep may acknowledge an offer as acceptable but he/she (alone) is not empowered to accept it on behalf of the club.

    K
erry native and former Celtic player Diarmuid O'Carroll has been signed by Cliftonville, seemingly as a replacement for Donnelly.

O'Carroll has something, which hopefully Rory Donnelly will get: Irish under-21 caps!

Bumping a thread that's about a year old. But in my current Football Manager 13 game, Donnelly has been called up by Sean O'Driscoll to the Republic of Ireland senior side in 2016.

AFAIK he has only made one senior appearance as a sub in a League Cup match earlier this season, has been playing reserve games though and has been scoring for them.

As someone with a buddy who recently invested in FM13, I can reveal that the distinction between the two is remarkably subjective!

What way does 'Pilks' end up swinging? By all means spoiler tag your response for the benefit of those who've been following that saga.

Pilkington is listed as Irish with English as his second nationality. From what I can see, he's usually called up right away.

Yeah, Pilkington ends up in the Irish squad by the Germany game.

Simon Cox usually ends up as Ireland's record goalscorer too.

Cheers, fellas. Y'know, I used to play CM & FM up until 4 or 5 years ago but (and speaking of detailed scouting) it's only lately enough that I gained a true appreciation for it. I'll be watching some league or other, hear about some young hotshot beginning to make his mark and wonder 'where have I heard that name before?'. The answer invariably involves FM having predicted the future years earlier. Yer man James Rodriguez at Porto is one example I can think of. Surely the sole reason I know there's a team in Colombia called Envigado.

Oh I know that score well enough. Champ Man reality is almost always preferable to real life too.

I believe it to be the most widely researched game in the world, by a long stretch.

Ha ha very true actually. Does it mean we know anymore about football other than just the name?! Not sure.

I havent played the game in a few years, but every version had its 'finds' Cherno Samba, Maxim Tsigalko to name only two. I remember the lads on Soccer Saturday talking about Cherno Samba recently enough - he's in some league in Norway now.

Julius Agahowa was a big name in the 97/98 edition, later turning up at Wigan in real life.
