Obviously it takes a lot to run a league. In the north an interim league was ran once in the midst of changes to structure. Regards the FAI, what reasons would they have not to allow it. These clubs have gotten involved in the U19 league. They shouldn't be just discarded.

    A Championship: 4 years - 8 first teams - 0 financially ruined. First Division '14: 7 first teams.
Opportunity lost for new clubs/regions to join the LoI family.

Lots of things happen in the North. I'm not sure that they're necessarily a template to aspire to though.

The cost, the administration involved and the fact that they couldn't give a tuppeny toss about the league in general and Cobh/Tralee/whomever in particular. These are not good reasons IMO but they don't think like I do (mores the pity).

I'm sure they'll be allowed to stay in the U19 league. I agree with you 100% that there should be a provision made for them to compete at senior level also but the FAI are being their usual scummy selves on this one. Quite frankly their attitude is that they have a European Championship to prepare for and they don't need the headache of more little clubs with aspirations to better themselves bothering them.
The ball is round and has many surprises.

Just to add to my post from yesterday. What happens if the old Galway Utd apply for a license next year? Is that likely? Would the FAI allow it? What will GUST do then? Would there be 4 license applications from Galway next year?

I was wondering that myself. There is a chance that the former board of Galway United will also apply for a license to try and screw over GUST but it's hard to see how they'll achieve it given the debts they've placed on the club and without no support.
I phoned the speaking clock to hear a voice speak, it said - "At the tone you will be very much alone"

All the clubs in Galway have been warned when the 16 team premier league comes in( looks like 2014 0r 2015) that there will only be only team from Galway in the the league.

I'm confused - the old bankrupt GUFC has merged with Salthill Devon?

I think the bankrupt GUFC directors have left GUFC and joined the board of SD? That really should be against league rules.

If they amalgamate too that ends any chance of GUST ever buying back the name Galway Utd FC......or does it?

But why would Salthill invite that lot in anyway? I think this is just a website putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5. There's no mention of this anywhere else.

2 things that make me think there is more to this:

    1. GUST asked a director of Galway utd last season if he could help find a Galway utd player a job, instead he got some Salthill players jobs.

    2. When GUFC withdrew from the league Rumor was that GUFC offered the name Galway Utd Fc to Salthill for a €1

So if Mervue and the artist formally known as Salthill Devon manage both somehow to get promoted one of them won't be allowed?

I'm confused: why use different spellings for the same word? Also, it's pronounced ee-pee-ell, not eople, so that's not even a phonetic spelling.
You can't spell failure without FAI

With regard to an interim league, I don't think that would work, or be allowed by the FAI, but surely they can't stop the outcast clubs (Tralee, Cobh, Carlow, maybe Castlebar, GUST) from holding some fundraising friendlies against each other, to show they have the potential to attract a fan base, and can organise getting a crowd in and out of a ground safely?

True, there should be nothing to stop those teams starting some sort of friendly competition between them.
