Amazing to think, that was the same year as taxi driver. Talk about different roles!

Not a movie, but isn't Clamps out of Futurama the funniest gangster ever?
Whatever it was I am sure it was better than my plan to get out of this by pretending to be mad. I mean, who would have noticed another madman around here?

Yeah...quite funny, and Sammy "The Mechanical Bull" Gravano.
Fat Tony in the Simpsons is quite good too.

There are other classics to be considered if you take into consideration the English underworld: The Krays, The Long Good Friday, and theres an excellent 4 part series on BBC2 called the Long Firm, starring some guy I never heard of acting as a gay london tough guy in soho...., the original Get Carter with Michael Caine, all classics
Couldn't find the worst film tread, so did a search on The Krays and found this thread. It was on TG4 last night. Did anyone watch it? My God it was awful, I was expecting something half decent but this was complete and utter ****e.

Ah it wasn't that bad. Granted, the Kemp brothers were very poor in it, but the storyline was ok.

I agree with Pete - Once Upon a Time in America. By a distance I have to say. (Re-opens debate)
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

James Woods is probably best role of his career. Once Upon is to de Niro as Godfather is to Al Pacino.

Does Point Blank count as a gangster movie? Maybe more of a crime thriller? Either way one of my favourites too. Lee Marvin never better. Mel Gibson attempted remake was a disgrace.

"Rise of the Footsoldier, follows the inexorable rise of Carlton Leach from one of the most feared generals of the football terraces to becoming a member of a notorious gang of criminals who rampaged their way through London and Essex in the late eighties and early nineties."

    Well worth a look

Post more suited to Recommended films thread , but I think the target audience are here.
