His strike rate in the First Division is only marginally higher than his strike rate in England, 1 in 3 games as opposed to 1 in 4. His best return was in the Premier Division last year when he was almost 1 in 2 before joining Sunderland.
I'd imagine McClean's stats are greatly boosted by his performance in the LOI First Division with Derry.

'Martin O'Neill backs James McClean for Euro 2012 selection': http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17963643
"I would be advocating James to join the Republic of Ireland squad absolutely," said O'Neill.
"Nothing will faze James."
O'Neill added:"I'm not in a position to tell Trapattoni what to do.
"He has done marvellously to get the Republic of Ireland through the Group and therefore those players who can gone and done something for him, I can understand that loyalty.
"But James will certainly not let him down."
O'Neill insisted that the Derryman could not be more than "a bit player" in the Republic's campaign next month.
"I actually think that he could become a significant part but that's entirely up to the manager."
Well I initially got the stats from soccerbase
http://www.soccerbase.com/players/pl...layer_id=10515
http://www.soccerbase.com/players/pl...layer_id=58543
So Duffs are 350ish and McClean 18, however I also got his average with Derry City and the average there is almost exactly the same
and it gives and overall figure of 0.244 from 94 games.
So whilst it is based on only a few games at Sunderland it does seem like a rate he might be able to maintain, however his last goal was a free
kick (but they count to!) and the one before was a while back so he may find it harder to score in the future but it is a bit early to say. If he scored in his next game it would bump his Sunderland right up, but then he might not score for a good while.
Incidental he is the highest rated Irish player here.

It's quite an interesting list if you look through it, although some may question it's validity.
Is Newcastle's Danny Simpson Irish?
Keith Andrews seems to be missing too, I suspect he may be Danny Simpson![]()

TC, you appear to be going through an acute 'stat phase', should we be worried for you?
I reckon there is a 14.5% chance that we should be worried.
DID YOU NOTICE A SIGN OUTSIDE MY HOUSE...?
Ha ha you should be worried, I have found a new stat site, the previous one I used (opta) is no longer available
however as I have found some new stats you should be worried as I can't 'unfind' them
How valid the stats are is a different matter.
The bad new from those stats is that we have no players in the top 100!!
So I would question their validity.
One thing they do show is that were are good in the air!! (Long Walters Doyle and Dunne).
We do very well in aerial battle won, so perhaps a call up for Delap is in order?
Just as well we are good in the air cos we are not so on terra firma![]()

Sorry to interrupt the stats analysis, but Martin O'Neill has indicated he'd like to try McClean wide right next season:
http://www.tribalfootball.com/articl...h-duff-3145531“Duff has the ability to play wide right, which he does for Fulham on a regular basis. James hasn’t acquired that yet but simply because I’ve not played him in any other position than on the left.“
Over the course of next season I can see him being able to adapt to other positions, like wide right coming in on his left foot.
“He’s settling in wide left well and is adding a few strings to his bow but to be fair to Damien Duff, he’s been doing it a lot longer than James.”
'Sunderland star James McClean gets death threats on Twitter after Republic of Ireland call-up': http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/ne...-16155463.html
They really don't do themselves any favours, do they?Death threats have been directed at former Northern Ireland U-21 footballer James McClean following his selection to play for the Republic at the Euro 2012 finals next month.
Two of the messages directed at him on Twitter threatened to have him shot and also contained sectarian abuse.
...
[McClean] said: “Absolutely honoured and couldn't be happier to have been called up to represent my country at the euros no better feelin! #COYBIG #ireland #euro12”
This was met with messages of congratulations, but also some posts that were full of sectarian abuse and threats to kill.
One Twitter user, with the account ‘RobbieLittle@PotKettleBlack3’, posted: “F*** up your dirty fenian b****** il make sure you get shot when you set foot back into gods country #FTP.”
Another using the name ‘James W Magee@JamesWMagee07’ posted: “U deserve to be shot for that comment!! Your playing for Ireland and not the country you were born in (NI). #p****”
Both messages have since been deleted.
God's country? I didn't know James was a regular visitor to Palestine.
Complete non-story though. He clearly doesn't care what these keyboard warriors say to him, and rightly so.
I dunno lads. I'm worried about McClean's commitment.
Reckon James would be well advised to stay off Twitter. He seems a good decent lad and is only given these bigots fuel to attack him with.
Always look on the bright side of life
It appears James (along with the Championship players) will join up with Trap earlier than the rest of the squad, with Trap potentially planning to deploy him on the right at some point: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/19692/7739621/
The 'McClean threatened' story is currently the number one trending article on the BBC's website.
McClean has nothing to apologise for.
The nature of the abuse and death threats are a serious development. Neil Lennon withdrew from the NI team just before a game (and retired altogether) after death threats were directed against his family.
Are times any different now? I'd hope that these vile cowardly creatures can be traced and prosecuted.
