After 3 league titles in a row, Jim McLaughlin left us to go to his hometown club. We dealt with it by adding another league title. Now the situation has reversed. I'm sure Derry will deal with it well too.Originally Posted by Flexy
thats me convinced anyway.
Btw, not suggesting Kenny is a bad manager at all. I think he'll do well. But there's already been more than enough spin surrounding Rovers.

Keep Tallaght Tidy, Throw your rubbish in the Jodi
Ten Years Not Out
its gas, either he isnt supporting Derry long or has a very short memory, he's leaving for 2 in a Row Champions with a hell of a lot more potential then Derry, oh and of course Rovers being the club playing in his hometown. Jim Mc as stated left the best team ever to grace this league, love the man, GOD, but if you want to bring insult into it, the same Derry team that eventually won the league on the back of Rovers demise, was effectively said Rovers team..... now thats an insult.
I thought he was one of the Rovers players who made the step up to European football very easily. I don't think he has good enough ball control or pace to be a top winger but I think he can do it at a level about Shamrock Rovers.
The whole hometown club thing is a total bluff. Sure Shams have no history there apart from the last three seasons that would hold any relevance to Kenny.
I think Shams will win the league by the amount of points that they should have last year if it wasnt for O Neill ie around ten.
Rovers have always been popular in Tallaght - it's one of the reasons the club decided to move there. Milltown is as close to Tallaght as Inchicore, which is why both Rovers and Pats have fanbases in the area.
I think it was a bluff to lighten the blow for any upset Derry fans.
They didn't want to say he was leaving for a bigger job with better prospects so went down the "hometown club" road.
Very happy with the appointment as mentioned before and particularly the manner and timeframe of it.
The Model Club
Tell all the Bohs you know
that we've gone and won two-in-a-row
and it's not gonna be three
and it's not gonna be four
it's more likely to be 5-1.
False hope is worse than no hope. Ask Sligo.
Stephen Kenny was the obvious and best choice for Shamrock Rovers. It's an absolute travesty for Derry City.
Did you know? Since 1996/97 when Derry won the league title, without Stephen Kenny as manager Derry City have never finished in the top four. Conversely, in every full season that Kenny has been in charge, they have never finished outside a top four spot.
Here's an article on his departure from the perspective of a Derry City fan: http://sc1sports.com/kenny-departs-c...end-of-an-era/
Sweet Jesus, the revisionism by shams on here is incredible Now Kenny is a cross between Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho !
Despite large resources (first time at Derry - double contracts era) SK won nothing apart from the League Cup - hardly inspiring stuff. Good LOI manager/coach but nowhere near Fenlon or Cooke in my opinion
Emotionally very brittle (constant cry baby - literally) it will be interesting to see how he copes with the most demanding fans in Ireland, especially when he has a bad result or two. Also his "go to" game has always been counter attacking and while he does it very well I dont think it will be suitable to shams. Too many draws - especially at home - killed Derrys League challenge as they often lacked a "plan B" when teams sat off them (especially at the Brandywell). At Shams he will have to cope with most teams sitting back and settling for a point so he will need a more attack minded set up than at previous teams.
Good manager (in my opinion) but still a lot to prove.
...... He's not the messiah, he's just a naughty little sham![]()
Think most of us thought it was the "free ground" that swung it CDI have no doubt that there was support for shams in Tallaght prior to move to SDCC Stadium (there is in most areas of Dublin) but would have considered Tallaght traditionally more Pats territory to be honest.
