Next question is who do Derry fancy to be their next manager?

My choice would be David Kelly played for us for a while in 2003, great first team coach with lots of experience

On extratime, Kenny's quoted as saying "its time to go home", and the Derry chairman intimates that Rovers are his home club as he was brought up in Tallaght.

I know very little about Kenny outside of his obvious LOI career. Are the above quotes correct? I know he may have been born and bred in Tallaght, but Rovers weren't there at the time. Does he have the strong connection to Rovers that is being claimed? Or is it more of a smokescreen?

That seems like an odd thing to say considering he's spent most of his career managing other teams in the LOI. Not that he didn't say it, it just seems like a strange promise to make.

I think it's more family connections in Tallaght than SRFC to be honest. At the start of his time in Derry it was hard for him with his family being in Dublin, they moved up to Fahan, but given the oppurtunity to move back(it's a good 3 hour drive, and Fahans basically a village) nearer home to a good job, most people would take it! Managers come and go so it's not that big a deal, thankfully it's come about now rather than closer to the start of the season!

So with all the talk of a long list of candidates, a manager coming from outside the league etc etc and they've only signed Stephen Kenny and the second choice was the UCD manager??? I was expecting a higher caliber manager with all the talk.

What a retarded comment. The UCD manager who with by far the worst budget in the leagues won the first division over money driven Fingal and Shels. Who then maintained there PD status twice, even after losing 10 of his starting team. Don't be so blind.

Secondly good on Rovers for not throwing money about stupidly. Ok they have had to pay compensation for Kenny but that was going to be necessary unless they picked up a manager out of contract, and there are very few good ones not working.

Good appointment by Rovers, there not getting above themselves after one good result in Europe. Some sense in the league at last

They did bring him back. In 2008. I take it you went back then.

Back to the LOI merry-go-round for us after 5 years away. He doesn't come free, but he has a simple task, retain the league. So no pressure then.

Well I think it's a point that Kenny's been in a position to win the title and hasn't. Clearly the Rovers board reckons he's learned enough lessons that he can follow through this year. His CV is excellent.

My opinion is he regularly over achieves and when this happens people begin to think your under achieving. Sounds silly but think about it for a second.

Players like McGlynn and Higgins, for example, moved to Bohs and performed very poorly. Kenny on the other hand brings the best out of them. Zayed is another example. Not doing a huge amount for Fingal, and many would argue he isint all that great, yet Kenny produces a PFAI Player of the Year and the PD's top scorer.

My point is its very naive to think the best appointment is one from a foreign league just because those leagues might have a higher profile than the LOI. I for one would argue that choosing someone with knowledge of this league and not just looking at the club as a stepping stone is a very wise choice.

Managers come and go. All the best Stephen. Have no idea who we'll get in but options are limited (Peter Hutton, possibly with Felix Healy is one of the few realistic one's bandied around).

Kenny quit before to join a so called stronger league, which i didnt mind but to leave for one of your main title rivals is an insult to the fans of DCFC and the club. Too soon for Pizza to be full time manager and Felix and wellhe can stick it where sun dont shine. Bring at Dolan or David Kelly Kelly in

Meh, not a very convincing argument - what about the likes of Billy Dennehy who was shocking for Derry and when he joined us (and then Rovers) became one of the finest players in the league?

I've seen it said that Kenny's achievements were phenomenal with Derry given his budget in comparison to other sides - but which of his 2 budgets are people referring to?

He's from Tallaght afaik, and did play for Tallaght Town I think. Again, iirc he did at one point harbour ambitions to take Tallaght Town into the league. Whatever about traditionally, Rovers are now clearly the Tallaght team, but even if he wasn't a boyhood fan, maybe going home just means back to Dublin?

Ultimately though, LoI managers are no different to LoI players, and will do what's best for them. Not exactly the first time Kenny's left a club you'd think he'd have a strong affinity for, for a better offer, is it?
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.

    What when he was 17/18?
