    Kim Jong-Il has died

His son, Kim Jong-un has succeeded him, but is viewed as a puppet likely to be firmly under the thumb of the North Korean military.

A puppet? Like father, like son...

Did you never see Team America?
Hello, hello? What's going on? What's all this shouting, we'll have no trouble here!

They seem to have used the occasion to fire a sneaky missile at South Korea.

Would not like to be in South Korea now. Unstable neighbour country that happens to hate you = bad. New leader trying to throw his weight around = bad. New leader continues on his dad's work = bad. New leader making conciliatory gestures towards ending communism and re-unifying with South Korea = bad.

On the plus side, the jokes are flying in.

Rick Perry, one of the Republican candidates for the US Presidency, just referred to him as Kim Jong the Second, misreading 'Il' as II.

Well, as odd (so we're informed) as the man was, is he as bad as Bertie? Or Dame Edna?

He ruled over an incredibly oppressive regime whose trademarks are famine, aggression towards neighbours and repression. So yes, he's considerably worse.

Staggered that the question has even been raised to be honest.

They're called the Looney Left for a reason, stupid comparison. Next they'll be comparing Bertie to Himmler

You'd prefer questions weren't raised? Sounds more like a repressive mentality.

Compare this - general hilarity, p!sstaking when a head of state dies (listening to BBC was painful), all comes out in the wash. Putin and co oversee another dodgy election and the world jumps up and down and joins in with the protesters (from a very safe distance) and reports very incorrectly.

Kazakhstan, Central Asia's stable nation, good guys, spend lots of money, buy up lots of Uni places in the UK and (Borat apart) are unseen. Yet last weekend the latest massacre (in the 100's) of protesters occurs and nothing more than brief reporting takes place. Why? Because the news reports are "looked after" thanks to big donations and that the multinational energy companies are all doing good business in Kazakhstan. There has been precious little "fair" or "professional" reporting going on, the forgotten land of Libya is one case in point. Though it's probably better not to ask questions.

My point is that Bertie and Enda aren't even remotely in that league. I have no problem with questions being raised. Even if sometimes they are a little bit silly.

Interesting that you took his response to mean that. I took it to mean that the comparison was just really, really stupid.

If some of the Labour lads were a bit more honest they'd be going over themselves in fairness.

The reporting on North Korea has been staggeringly, predictably, atrocious.

Weird, your wum put in seems stupid, though I wouldn't say that of course. :-)

Fair enough Mr. A, Bertie and co wouldn't be in the same league as Il, though in the bankrupting (or in Kenny's case - continuing the bankrupting) of one's country, they're not strangers.

Spud - do you have to dismiss everyone who disagrees with you as a wum? John83 is correct with what he says; Mr A was correct to dismiss your post as stupid (and gave perfectly valid reasons why). There's really no two ways about it. Just move on.

You say both bankrupted their countries - let's be honest, while we haven't got it rosy here, it's nothing compared to the millions dying or starving in North Korea while the government spend all their money on nuclear weapons so they can throw shapes at the South. Seriously, some perspective is needed here.

PS, it's a very constructive and intelligent thing to disregard others posts or points as stupid - although I should the same back. It'd be easier and I don't have to make a point of my own - just say, that's stupid - or do you disagree with that? A person can say -I disagree because.......

Agreed on perspective - precious little in media coverage of either situation. It's disgusting how the Irish media do their utmost to not just ape but cut and paste English media coverage. There are far more important and disturbing events taking place yet the media lead the sheep to a conclusion that, if you don't agree with it, you're a commie, socialist or stupid.

What has been surprising, in the last week, is the number of Irish and British who've visited North Korea in the last few years and the stories all seem to differ yet be the same. On some phone in shows there was almost a race to the bottom of the "most shocking tourist story....ever!!" league, though one thing seemed to be common. The locals were decent, friendly and friendly. If the son can open up the country a little without letting McDonalds and Starbucks take over, they might just have a chance.

In fact, Mr A did say "I disagree because......." He clearly refuted your post, giving reasons. To disagree with you is not to WUM.
