Galway Devon? That makes no sense whatsoever.

I'd guess it's something like Mervue/GUST. A nice training ground in Fahy's field there anyways.

I'd say that was Salthills reaction. Some about of stories going around Galway these days I'd say all are sh1te

If it is a link-up between Devon and GUST, I can't see either 'United' or 'Devon' in the name, more than likely it would be 'Galway xxxx' - FC, Athletic, maybe even Rovers in a throw-back to the LOI roots in the city - so as to 'sell' it to United fans as a new version of United, rather than a switch to supporting Devon. As for Tony and Jumbo, I'd imagine they would work very well together, with Jumbo as the manager of the Airtricity League side, Tony as a Director of Football or something, while continuing to work with all the other Devon sides. I can't see Mervue being involved - I'd offer to run naked through the streets of Galway if that happened but, quite frankly, no-one wants to see that, in relation to both me being naked, and Mervue and GUST in partnership.

So at this stage, what's the most probable make-up of the first division for 2012?

Can it be said for certain these clubs will be involved:
Limerick, Waterford, Longford, Finn Harps, Athlone, Wexford.

Are we looking at 1, 2 or 3 clubs from Galway? I could see a place for two clubs from a number or counties/regions but 3 is a bit much.

    Of potential new clubs:
    Cobh, Carlow, Tralee and Fanad.

    A Championship: 4 years - 8 first teams - 0 financially ruined. First Division '14: 7 first teams.
Opportunity lost for new clubs/regions to join the LoI family.

The only one of those I'd have a slight doubt about is Wexford.

    Limerick
    Waterford
    Longford
    Finn Harps
    Athlone
    Wexford
    Mervue
    GUST/Salthill mash up
    Cobh
    Tralee
    Carlow

    That's what I reckon. 11 teams, I know.
    Get into them! ( They're easyyyy! )

    Ten teams.

One of Cobh, Tralee or Carlow wont make it.

If Salthill Devon change to Galway Devon it wont involve the GUST afaik.

^ that's how I'd figure it too, the FAI want max 2 teams in Galway, Delaney has publically stated that there are too many sides there.

'Galway Devon' or whatever they're going to be called in Terryland and Mervue in Fahy's Field.

Are Fanad definitely out? Where's the harm in pressing ahead with 11? It'll leave scope for one more club to join in the near future.

If an even number of teams was an issue, surely it'd make more sense to admit GUST independently, rather than penalising clubs who, if the various threads are correct, have met the licensing requirements?

Well all of the above believe they are in, so hard to see who they would drop.

Out of interest, are there any Salthill or Carlow fans on here?

Christ, you're talking close to an hour for them to get to Ballybofey. Heard that they were told it would be a regional division and now it's not going to be that way they're put off by the travelling. They wouldn't have a huge fanbase anywho so they'd be no loss.
