A man in Terryland last friday mentioned it to me in passing that it looked like Athlone were to get serious backing. He did say who it was but i didn't catch the name. All i caught was that this person owned a serious of businesses. Not making this up.
doubt it was paddy? would that not be a conflict of interest considering his FAI role
Whoever it was though. thank be to god for youdreaming of this moment for years. supposedly hes in talks with club over further investment in playing staff etc...
Great News. Why don't a few more of the wealthy 'socker supporters' realize that they could own a club in Ireland and qualify for Europe for the price of a corporate season ticket at a club in the Auld enemy?
Nice wan Athlone, hope ye finish second next year!
You can shove your British Culture up your Londonderryair!
Mr abramovich could take us over and we still wouldn't get promoted
Nah,Look at what Longford did a few years back, thiofaidh ur la!
You can shove your British Culture up your Londonderryair!
Yep and mystery developer moves Athlone to play out of Dalymount - now that would really confuse those blasted Dublin refs. Richie Winter just might just become a Shels fan
'Mr Burke could not confirm or deny rumours the investor also has intentions to invest in the playing side of the club, but the Westmeath Independent has learned that a meeting between the investor and the football club committee is expected to take place in the next few weeks'.
Be very aware Athlone fans..very aware!! Lissywollen is a car park lissywol...nah doesnt have the same ring to it....Oriel is a car park fits too well!!

The mind boggles
"Now jump up there and stuff that son of a bitch in the basket, chief"
SO, does this mean the stadium if fully paid for now? As in Athlone no lonbger have to service the debt? Brilliant news, hope they kick on from here

It is great news indeed. It's a great boost for Athlone, just hope they don't go and blow the money. Pay off the debt and start from scratch.
madness. but we're not complaining haha
How much (if any) were the club paying each month toward the stadium debt? If they were does it mean they can simply up the players budget to somwhere that could give them a chance of promoting. Would be great to see them up. Always enjoyed me trips there plus good history and club.
Manager: Fergal, have you your boots with ya?
Fergal: Ya, I have them here.
Manager: Ah good stuff, well give them to this man so, he forgot his!
Until crowds are boosted in Athlone I can't imagine much of a budget there again. They'd be crazy to turn around now and raise the budget too far.
May I be the first to say, boo urns.
I wonder is a certain recently bankrupt Northern businessman "resting" some spare cash in the Midlands until he is out of UK bankruptcy in 12 months?![]()
I'm what? I'm ants at a picnic?
