First Division Team Of The Year

Can't let the Premier boys have it all their own way. For me:

    Sava (Monaghan)

    Ryan (Shelbourne)
    Purcell (Limerick)
    Boyle (Shelbourne)
    Murphy (Cork)

    Byrne (Shelbourne)
    Morrissey (Cork)
    Cassidy (Shelbourne)
    R Brennan (Monaghan)

    Cummins (Cork)
    Hughes (Shelbourne)

    Subs:
    Burns (Waterford)
    Paisley (Shelbourne)
    Spillane (Cork)
Horgan (Cork) a cert if he wasn't only here a few months
    Gaffney (Mervue/Limerick)
    Dawson (Shelbourne)
    S Brennan (Monaghan)
Lets redefine what it means to heal

I can't argue with much of that. I also agree on Daryl Horgan. IMO, the best player in the division, what a pity that we can't keep him. Also, Cathal Lordan is just coming back from a long-term injury for us, if he had been playing, he'd have been a shoe-in.

EDIT: Hold on a minute, Davin O'Neill?

Played in at least two games against us so that's mainly(our games against other teams) what I'm going on and he was very good.

He's a very good player. I hope he gets back from this injury.

He and Jason Molloy were deemed surplus to requirements by Seanie. We were much better off with Steve Feeney and Brian Cash.

O'Neill was rubbish on the wing, his goals and form came when he played up top.

For me Cummins is a shoe in for player of the year again, but Daryl Horgan would have run him close if hed been in the division all season. He has 6 goals from the wing in half a season which is pretty good going. Makes him our third top scorer I think (maybe tied with Shane Duggan)

Would still have O Neill in my best starting XI. I wouldn't look too much into the fact O Neill is down as left wing from reading that.

I think the First Divisions strongest 11 is probably the strongest their has ever been.

Fine player, although his performance last Friday (bar the goal) wasn't great.
He has 5 goals, level With Gearoid in 5th spot.

Watch the goal again, I'm not so sure. Although he did run to Kavanagh.

    Dean Delaney (Shels)

    Danny Murphy (Cork)
    Stephen Paisley (Shels)
    Pat Purcell (Limerick)
    Ian Turner (Cork)

    David Cassidy (Shels)
    Sean Brennan (Mons)
    Shane Duggan (Cork)
    Davin O'Neill (Cork)

    Philly Hughes (Shels)
    Graham Cummins (Cork)

I had thought of putting the likes of Kevin Murray (Waterford), Paudie Quinn (Limerick), Kevin McHugh (Harps), Fabio O'Brien (Mons) and Rory Gaffney (Mervue/Lims) but stuck with the 11 that most impressed me this season.
Delaney looked solid in nets for the most part, the 2 cork full backs constant bombing forward were very impressive while Paisley and Purcell's experience meant it was no surprise to see they both featured in the 2 tightest defences in the league.
It's a pretty attacking midfield too, there must be over 40 goals between the 4 of them in the league.
Top 2 goalscorers in the league and a handful for any defence was the reason for the front 2.

I'd have to give Cassidy player of the season. He'll be a real addition to the Premier division next season.

i feel like im doing nothign to help the City players cause

Ian Turner was in and out of the team at right back and was supposed to go on loan to Wexford. He was most impressive when reborn as a winger. Neal organ has been our right back for the majority of the season

    Cassidy 14
    Sean Brennan 13
    O'Neill 12
    Duggan 6

though you are cheating a bit - Davin and Cassidy aren't really midfielders

also Delaney has been fierce dodgy whenever I've seen him

    Sava is the best goalkeeper

its definitely Kavanaghs goal, I remember thinking at the time that Daryl didn't get a touch and the replays convinced me I was right. Horgan never claimed it and all the media corrected themselves a day or two later to give it to Kav

Cassidy very much is a midfielder.....all our football goes through him, he just happens to be able to break forward when we are playing with one up front. What would you call him if he isnt a midfielder btw?

Have to agree with a lot of whats said above.
Can't choose a best 11 though, but a few players stood out.

Gabriel Sava - has been solid any time I saw him apart from one terrible mistake against Harps. Last time round make one of the best individual goalkeeper performances in years in Finn Park.

Graham Cummins, - Quality player and will terrorise defences in the Premier and will score a hatful of goals. Expect Cork to be there or there about next season.

Philly Hughes - the bol**ks just won't go away and pops up with another 5 million goals for the season. A tub, but has a serious touch and finish.

Sean Brennan - Both Brennans are quality, but Sean stood out more for me, simply has to be playing in the Premier next season whether with Mons or another team.

Rory Gaffney - class act. I think he's struggled to settle at Limerick as of yet, but was the clear stand out player for Mervue and had them sitting where they are in the table now.
