No it isn't. Galway don't play in Tallaght, except as an away team.

Likewise, potential sponsorship revenues in the city are flowing into the Sportsground where Connacht rugby has finally got their marketing right. Plus every kid in the county wants a Connacht top for Xmas.
Glad to see people in Galway finally realise this now. Its a shame the club hoodwinked the FAI with their 'potential' 5 years.

Let's not over egg the pudding, Connacht are tiny compared to Munster!!

In Galway, people have 3 clubs to support, over a very wide area.
Somone pointed you out to me at a game before and you looked a bit dim but you're really having a laugh with this.

By your logic if there was a team from the moon they'd be world beaters, excuse the pun, it's got a radius of over 1700k east-west and north-south!

The only problem is no-one fu**ing lives there!!

Edit: Just in case you're touchy I didn't really think you looked a bit dim!

    Correct.

    Meanwhile, back to discussing Galway.

I'm very surprised at this statement Tommy. How about the history of the club, the support the club gets, playing home games in Terryland rather than Fahy's Field or a field? Players were choosing to play First Division ahead of us last season anyway!

I honestly think going down will be better for us and the league in the long run.

If we had another season of getting hammered each week our crowds would very quickly drop to the 200 or 300 mark. In Division 1 we'll be lucky to break the 1000 mark for any game but we should still consistantly get in the region of 600 as at least we might win a game. Talk of "no away support" isn't really true either. Look at the likely teams in the league. Salthill, Mervue, Athlone, Longford, Limerick all within a stonesthrow of Galway - these clubs will all bring a handful of fans to the games and Limerick could well bring a couple of hundred as they'll be walking their way to the title. It's not as if Bray, Drogheda, Dundalk, UCD or Bohs (only coz they'll be shi**) would be selling out their away section.

Even looking at this season's First Division, with a proper pre-season, there's absolutely no reason we couldn't be challenging for a top 3 finish in the Division.

What you say about the 3-Galway clubs is spot on though - I raised this on our forum at the start of last season. There seriously needs to be some agreement reached - Salthill Devon, to me, appear to be based on the Home Farm kind of model of a club for developing youngsters in Galway. Even them having a Junior team seems a bit odd but wasting money to be the worst team in League of Ireland is crazy, though as someone else said both clubs earned their place in the LoI by right and the main current problems at Galway United are nothing to do with them.
