    Salthill

Wexford's physical dominance eventually proved too much for a game Salthill in Ferrycarrig tonight and resulted in the Youth's first home league win of the season. With Packie, Danny and Ben suspended, Youths started with Sean, Mark, Murt, Karl, James, Shane N., Shane D., Patsy, Deano and two big lads up front, Darragh and Tom. Youths started brightly and got a couple of crosses into the Salthill box early on. However, Salthill scored with their first real attack when a neat move found Whelan who nutmegged a Wexford defender before steering it to Sean's right for 1-0. Youths then nearly scored an og from a Salthill corner when, on fifteen, Salthill went two up when a long free found its way to a Salthill attacker (Whelan) in an offside position who bundled it away. Assistant referee put her flag up but referee overruled it presumably for ball having been deflected to the Salthill attacker for a 2-0 scoreline.

On twenty, Tom was found with a through ball by the influential Shane Dempsey but his volley was pushed over the bar by Faherty in the Salthill goal for a corner. Salthill, however, were vulnerable from crosses all night and, on twenty-five, Wexford got one back when Faherty dropped an easy catch from a corner backwards into his own net for 1-2. Tom then got through again but a heavy touch allowed Faherty to gather safely. Shane D. then picked up a yellow for a tackle and right on hallf-time, a long free by the Youths found Shane Nolan free at the far post and his goalbound nod back was touched home neatly by Darragh for 2-2 at half-time.

Wexford played with the wind in the second-half and largely dominated the half with Patsy and Shane D. breaking down most of Salthill's efforts to play the ball on the ground. After three, Shane D. had a good effort from a free touched over the bar by Faherty. A series of Youth's corners then followed and, eventually, Tom Elmes buried a free header into the top right corner for 3-2 to the home side. Tom then had another free header from a corner but put it wide of the left-hand post. Patsy then picked up a yellow for a tackle and then Darragh, latching onto another through-ball lifted it over Faherty but then managed to stab the ball against the post with a gaping goal in front of him.

With about twenty to go, another free-kick from the left by Deano found Patsy free at the far post and his easy header made it 4-2. Horgan then picked up a yellow for Salthill for a tackle on Tom. Salthill then managed a rare effort on Sean Allen's goal when Sean had to push away a good header and then block the shot from the rebound for a corner. Green then picked up a yellow for dissent for Salthill and, with five to go, Darragh put Deano away down the left and he nutmegged Faherty for 5-2. Late subs for Wexford were Grinny who could also have scored when he went through against Faherty and Muzzi whilst Geraghty also picked up a yellow for Salthill for a tackle on Shane N.

Good effort all over the pitch by Wexford with Tom, Darragh, Patsy and the two Shanes outstanding. 5-2 at full-time with about 200 at the match.
