If, and it's clearly a massive if, Shels made the group stages of the champions league the benefits to the whole league would be big. It would bring in money to the likes of Cork through TV revenue, as people would consider it might be worth their while televising the league now, and attendences would probably steadily rise as the profile of the league would rise. It would also be easier for you to keep players from going to abroad and easier to attract better players from abroad, basically you might be able to hang onto O'Flynn for longer as one example anyway.

No EL side would be able to beat Liverpool baring a miracle really, but it wouldn't be completley impossible for us to get a result against Rangers imo. Remember when Shels lost a 3-0 lead to Rangers? That wouldn't happen now with full time and summer football fitness levels imo.

That's a fair point Tiktok and a month ago I wouldn't have. Having seen the apparent upheaval at Nantes recently then I think City have a fair chance although if I'm honest, I still think Nantes will have too much for them... I hope I'm wrong though.

I think it's fair to say City are not in the same bracket as a team that's just spent £14m on a French international striker though, that's all I'm saying and in your heart of hearts, I don't think even the most die-hard City supporter would expect success against a team with those credentials.

I'll always wwish any Irish side well in Europe, its just a pity that the team representing us in the top competition are the most unsuited to european football. shels kick and rush style is very effective in this league, but it just doesn't work in europe. good luck to them, but i can't see them getting past the next round at most

I wouldn't expect success, just believe we have a fair chance of getting a result. You simply dismissed our chances, but Liverpool are not unbeatable.

I wish all EL clubs the best in Europe.

Its a bit premature to be worrying about a team reaching the group stages and turning into Rosenborg.

I used the wrong word with expect. I know most sane City fans wouldn't expect to beat Liverpool. I didn't totally dismiss the chance either though, just said that it is highly unlikely that City would beat a team of that calibre. A tiny chance in a one off game, virtually none over 2 legs.

I know this thread was started a while ago, but this and a few of the other posts look funny now in the light of Shelsea's progress.

You obviously didn't see their home game against Split did you. As much as i hate to admit it, it wasn't exactly kick and rush football that they played against at the Cross earlier this season when they played us off the park.
