That Italy game at the time was rightly pointer out as a non-runner for comparisons or equating ability. It hasn't meant anything in the context of anything!

Are you allowed to support your own opinion by referring to it as right later on in time, based on no evidence? Paul is as bad as TOWK in many respects. Some said it was a (very) good performance in itself. MON then went on to ignore the obvious lessons of that game and reverted to players and systems he preferred. Paul said at the time he thought Hoolahan was poor, then backtracked to say Hoolahan was good.

Any chance McClaren will try to bring him to Newcastle?

He seemed to be a constant presence at Derby even during dry spells.

Interesting point yeah, a part of me would be nervous for him, or any other player, who moves to Newcastle though. Somewhere a little less unstable would be better I think. A season under a manager like Clement might not do him any harm either, although it remains to be seen if he can use his coaching pedigree to become a successful manager.

I wouldn't be in a rush to go to Newcastle if I was Hendrick, because I'd be sitting on the bench, Steve McClaren or not in charge! Newcastle have decent options in midfield. If he's looking at the PL, then there's plenty of clubs to look at. Sunderland, Leicester, Norwich, Stoke, Southampton, Palace, are all sides that he'd have a chance of getting first team football.

That said, if Derby can get a proper centre-half, then they should really be looking at automatic promotion this year, and at Hendrick's age, playing football should be the priority now, when you think that he's not going to be worrying about playing European football.
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!

As mentioned elsewhere, Hendrick went off with a dead leg shortly before half time last night. He was supposed to have been excellent against Charlton at the weekend but would have been disappointed not to have scored, even in these brief highlights he had three really good chances/efforts.

Check out the very start of the highlights from last night also where he nearly scored a bit of a wonder goal, after some determined play and a great bit of skill.

But on a more serious note...

Thought we'd heard the last of that.

Back in the starting line-up for Derby now against Leeds, both winless and undefeated. Eight draws between them from their first four games.

After a quiet first half Hendrick has been outstanding in the first fifteen minutes of the second. He had an excellent shot well saved and probably shout have scored, or at least hit the target as Ray Houghton would say, with another. His first touch at the edge of the box was exquisite though. He's been involved in everything this half in which Derby have been electric, after a dismal first half showing where they went in one down. Martin has since brought them level though.

Was it Hendrick who played the long half volley pass to put in Martin one on one? Lovely pass, whoever it was.

No that was Hanson, and it was Weimann that was one on one. Great ball alright, plenty of space to aim for but great vision and brilliantly executed. It all went very tame after the last report until Chris Wood's cracking goal just now. I think Keogh should have done better though, could have closed the space quicker and stayed on his feet.

Any lawyers in our midst? No violence, just aggressive words (allegedly)? This smacks of "soccer star in sensational negative headline because he's a soccer star" to me.

Maybe we can set up something on gofundme to raise his 200 Euro bail?

Lads, not meaning to single just one player out but I felt Hendrick really shone against Germany last night. I've criticized him in the past for lacking composure in tight spaces against good players but I thought that last night he was utterly immense. He drove forward from both deep and advanced positions and seemed to be demonstrating to Ilkay Gundogan how a box-to-box midfielder should play. Towards the end he went on a mazy run down the right to run down the clock and granted us ideal territory in the corner. It was mature and composed.

Think of the moments he's granted us in this campaign:
    - the knock-back to O'Shea in Gelsenkirchen
    - the jinx and nutmeg before assisting Walters against Georgia
    - that performance last night

I hope he goes on to establish himself more at club level and push on to become a PL player. His Ireland performances in this campaign show that he has all the tools to do so, why he hasn't by now is beyond me but it appears inevitable.

And maybe Paul Clement should have taken a better look at Hendrick before he splashed £5m on Butterfield and put him straight into the side.

He signed Butterfield after Will Hughes did his cruciate which was fair enough. Hendrick has been dropped at various stages by Clough and McClaren but invariably comes back stronger for it and comes back into favour.
