    Playoff Details Confirmed

    Details of playoffs confirmed.

    Airtricity League play-off arrangements

    Please note the following:

Rule 19.29 of the Participation Agreement states as follows:

“At the end of the 2011 Season, a Promotion / Relegation Play-Off shall take place between the tenth placed Club in the Premier Division League championship and the third placed Club in the First Division League championship. The Play-off shall be over two legs with the order of home advantage to be decided by the drawing of lots. The winners of the two legged tie shall qualify to compete in the Premier Division League championship in the 2012 season.”

The match order and dates have been confirmed as follows by the NLEC (all matches to kick-off at 7.45 pm):

First Leg - Tuesday, 1st November: Third placed First Division Club v Tenth placed Premier Division Club

Second Leg – Friday, 4th November: Tenth placed Premier Division Club v Third placed First Division Club

Should the Third placed First Division Club also qualify for the FAI Ford Cup Final, then the Second Leg will take place on Wednesday, 9th November.

Please also note the following rules in the Participation Agreement:

19.34 “In all matches played as Promotion and Relegation Play-Offs, the following shall apply: In the event that the scores are level after the single match or two legged tie as appropriate, thirty minutes extra time of two fifteen minute periods will be played. The away goal rule will not apply. If the sides are still level, penalty kicks will be used to decide the outcome. “

I take it this means a 12 team Premier next season then. They would never bother with a Promotion/Relegation play-off if it was just going to be meaningless...

If this was in the participation agreement from the start of the season why is it only being made public now?

Rule 22.0 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

It was known months ago anyway. What do the public matter?

But the play-off details were known within a couple of weeks of the start of the season anyway (I was told by a club official in April, and posted the details here at the time).
